CSCwn96771 | Vigor Inphi IOFPGA flash upgrade failure fix. |
Some Cisco NC57-36H-SE line cards may show a Field Programmable Device (FPD) upgrade fail message during the Cisco IOS XR Software upgrade process.
Detailed analysis showed that the error is caused by a software defect in the flash configuration in some of the devices. The error will not cause any traffic impact or hinder any system operations.
The following message will be observed after the upgrade operation:

Solution
As stated in the Background section of this Field Notice, this condition will not cause any traffic impact. Customers may choose to ignore the error message and defer the software upgrade.
To determine if a product is affected, see the How to identify Affected Products section of this Field Notice. If the device output matches the output in that section, upgrade to Cisco IOS XR Software Release 24.2.21 because it contains the fix.
After installing Cisco IOS XR Software Release 24.2.21, apply fpd auto-reload disable (only if fpd auto-reload config is enabled, else not applicable) and fpd auto-upgrade enable on the XR VM before completing the following steps:
Step 1 | ||
---|---|---|
Pre-validation | Trigger | Post-validation |
Check if the show hw-module fpd IOFPGA status is UPGD SKIP:NC57-36H-SE 0.1 IOFPGA UPGD SKIP 0.05 0.05Check if the platform is in XR RUN state, before upgrading: NC57-36H-SE IOS XR RUN NSHUT |
RP/0/RP1/CPU0:vigor#upgrade hw-module location <slot> |
Check for show hw-module fpd. The status should be RLOAD REQ.NC57-36H-SE 0.1 IOFPGA RLOAD REQ 0.05 0.09 |
Step 2 | ||

Not applicable. |
RP/0/RP1/CPU0:vigor#admin |
Check the FPD Status using show hw-module fpd. The status should be CURRENT and running and Programd version should be in 0.12. NC57-36H-SE 0.1 IOFPGA CURRENT 0.12 0.12 |
Note: Auto FPD upgrade will be skipped by the software for Line Card NC57-36H-SE IOFPGA until the IOFPGA is running with version 0.12
Customers who have devices that are affected as shown in the How to Identify Affected Products section of this Field Notice and are running a Cisco IOS XR Software release that does not have a fix for CSCwn96771 may request an SMU. To do so, open a case with the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) and share the upgrade details.
To determine if a device is affected, run the following command in admin mode:
sysadmin-vm:0_RP0# show controller card-mgr iofpga flash info location 0/1 Tue Mar 11 18:54:41.881 UTC+00:00 I/O FPGA SPI flash information for: 0/1 IOFPGA: HW Info: Manufacturer ID: Macronix (0xC2) Device Type : 0x20 Device Size : 8 MB Programmed Content: Secure Size Boot Image Name Version Build Date (bytes) Enabled Note ======================== ========= ========== ========= ======= ====== I/O FPGA (Backup) 0.05 08/18/2020 2751360 YES I/O FPGA 0.05 08/18/2020 2751360 YES Active
If the output shows IOFPGA HW INFO as (0xC2) and the FPD version as 0.05, the device is affected. Follow the instructions in the Workaround/Solution section of this Field Notice.
