Problem Description
When connected to a Catalyst 6000 (CAT6K), or any source that has incoming burst data, the CE-1000-4 card can drop traffic when exposed to bursting data after internal buffers of the CE-1000-4 are filled.
The last frame of burst data received gets stuck in the internal FIFO. This frame then gets pushed out of the FIFO by the next burst of data coming in, thus creating out of sequence frames at the CAT6K receiver and causing the upper layers to resend.
Background
We found that the last frame of burst data received always gets stuck in the internal FIFO. This frame gets pushed out of FIFO by the next burst of data coming in.
When we connect the CE-1000-4 with the CAT6K, the CAT6K is sending 100 frames of burst data towards the CE1000-4.
In the first burst of the data, the CAT6K is going to receive back only 99 of the 100 frames. One frame will be stuck in the CE-1000-4.
Problem Symptoms
The last frame of burst data received gets stuck in the internal FIFO of the CE-1000-4. This frame then gets pushed out of FIFO by the next burst of data coming in, thus creating out of sequence frames at the CAT6K receiver and causing the upper layers to resend.
Workaround/Solution
Have the defective cards replaced.
With the new FPGA release, the issue has been fixed. Now all the frames are passing and none of them get stuck in the internal FIFO of the 15454-CE-1000-4 card.
