Problem Description

TNC/TSC/TNCE/TSCE cards shipped with R9.3 software prior to 12/01/2011 are missing a file in the package which results in BKUPMEMP alarm declaration.

The Manufacturing process has been corrected as of 12/01/2011 for this issue.

Background

During the Manufacturing process for the TNC/TSC/TNCE/TSCE, the cards are preloaded with a Software release ordered by the customer. During the loading of the package for the Software release 9.30, a required file was not being loaded which results in the alarm declaration.

Because of the missing file the system background software auditors identified that this file is missing and the BKUPMEMP alarm is reported.

Problem Symptoms

The BKUPMEMP alarm will be raised on the TNC/TSC/TNCE/TSCE card preloaded with software packages with the missing file. USB Sync and USB WRITE alarms may also be reported due to the software attempting to copy the missing file to the USB device in the LCD.

The Manufacturing process has been corrected as of 12/01/2011 for this issue.

Workaround/Solution

To resolve the issue, the 9.30 release from CCO should be loaded to the system into both partitions. For bringing up a new shelf with new TNC/TSC/TNCE/TSCE cards, perform this sequence:

1. Insert both TNCs.
(LCD should be removed)
2. Software download to protect partition.
3. Activate which will make protect partition the working.
4. Software download to the protection partition.
(If the LCD has not been inserted yet the following steps are not required. Only if LCD was inserted with TNCs with the manufacturing load present in the shelf prior to software download from CCO.)
5. Insert the LCD.
6. Perform usbFormat to remove any loaded software on the usb flash drive. Telnet into Active TNC (telnet ip-address) and issue the usbFormat command.
7. Physically pull/reinsert the LCD, which will force the sync of the Active TNC partitions to the LCD.

In the event of the receipt of a single module that is inserted into the shelf in the Standby slot, perform this workaround:

1. Software download to protect partition.
2. Activate which will make protect partition the working.
3. Software download to the protection partition.

If you identify that you have this issue and the workaround has not resulted in clearing the issue, please contact the Cisco Systems Technical Assistance Center (TAC) by one of the methods listed in the "For More Information" section of this field notice.

How To Identify Hardware Levels

TNC/TSC/TNCE/TSCE cards listed in the "Products Affected" section in this field notice that have shipped with R9.3 software prior to 12/01/2011 are affected.

Customers should check their TNC/TSC/TNCE/TSCE card serial number against the serial number validation tool provided below. The serial number validation tool will identify affected hardware. Customers who identify their hardware as affected should follow the workaround procedures described in the "Workaround/Solution" section of this field notice to avoid this issue.
