The General tab displays the following details:

To configure additional general AP parameters:

1. In the General section, configure the following:

   1. Update the name of the AP. The AP name can be ASCII characters from 33 to 126, without leading and trailing spaces.

   2. Specify the location at which the AP is present.

   3. Enable the Admin Status if the AP should be in Enabled state.

   4. Choose the appropriate mode for the AP:

      • Monitor: In this mode, the AP radios are dedicated to monitoring the Wi-Fi channel for RRM and rogue detection. All AP models support this mode.

      • Sensor: In the sensor mode, the AP can actually function like a WLAN client, associating and identifying client connectivity issues within the network in real time without requiring an IT or technician to be on site.

      • Bridge: Access point mode that is a bridge if you are connecting a root AP.

      • Clear: Returns the AP back to client-serving mode, for example the local mode or flexconnect mode depending on the remote site tag configuration.

      • Flex: In this mode, client traffic can either be tunneled in CAPWAP to the controller, or egress at the AP’s LAN port, depending on the WLAN configuration. FlexConnect mode APs do not support mesh operation. All models support FlexConnect mode.

      • Local: This is the default mode. A local mode AP tunnels all client traffic, for all WLANs, in CAPWAP, to the controller. In this mode, the AP’s radios are operational only when the AP is connected to its controller. Local mode APs do not support mesh operation. All AP models support Local mode.

      Note: A warning message is displayed informing you that changing the AP mode will reboot all the APs except the Master AP. The Master AP requires the controller to save and reload for the changes to take effect.

   5. In the CleanAir NSI Key field, click NSI Key to view the security key.

2. In the LED Settings section, configure the following:

   1. Enable LED State to enable the LED state.

   2. From the Brightness Level drop-down list, choose a value from 1 to 8.

      Note: You can configure the LED state, regardless of the LED brightness value that you choose.

3. In the Flash Settings section, configure the following:

   1. Enable Flash to enable LED flash.

   2. In the Flash Duration drop-down list, select the type of flash duration. The available options are:

      • Always On

      • Timed: Enter the flash duration in seconds. The value must be in the range of 1 to 3600.

4. In the Tags section, specify the appropriate policy, site, and RF tags that you created in the Configuration > Tags & Profiles > Tags page.

   1. From the Policy drop-down list, select a policy tag.

   2. From the Site drop-down list, select a site tag.

   3. From the RF drop-down list, select a RF tag.

   4. Click the save button for Write Tag Config to AP to push the tags to the AP so that the AP can save and remember this information even when the AP is moved from one controller to another.

   For more information about Policy, Site, and RF, see the Tags section.

5. In the IP Config section, enable the static IP (IPv4/IPv6) checkbox to enable static IP. When an AP boots up, it tries to determine if the static IP address is configured or not. If the AP has been configured with a static IP address that is not valid on the network, the AP cannot join the device and cannot communicate with the rest of the network. In such a scenario, the only way to recover that AP is to manually open the access point door and connect a serial console for configuration purpose. The access point can be configured in such a way that even if its static IP address is not valid on the network, it initiates a DHCP process to get a new IP address and use it for communication. This configuration enables the AP to join the devices on the network.

   An AP cannot discover the device using the Domain Name System (DNS) resolution if a static IP address is configured for the AP, unless you specify a DNS server and the domain to which the AP belongs.

   Configure the following, if the Static IP (IPv4/IPv6) check box is selected:

   1. In the Static IP (IPv4/IPv6) field, enter the static IP address of the access point.

   2. In the Netmask field, enter the subnet mask assigned to the access point IP address.

   3. In the Gateway (IPv4/IPv6) field, enter the gateway of the access point.

   4. In the DNS IP Address (IPv4/IPv6) field, enter the DNS IP address of the access point.

   5. In the Domain Name field, enter the domain name of the access point.

      Note: A warning message is displayed informing you that changing the static IP will reboot the APs except the Master AP. The Master AP requires the controller to save and reload for the changes to take effect.

6. After you provide or select the necessary information, click Update & Apply to Device.

   A confirmation message is displayed at the bottom-right corner of the All Access Points window.

The Interfaces tab displays the list of interfaces associated with the AP and relevant details the following details:

To configure additional USB parameters:

1. In the USB Settings section, you can configure the following:

   1. Enable Module State to configure USB port on the AP.

   2.  Enable Override to override the USB status of the AP profile and consider the local AP profile configuration.

      Note: If you are using Cisco Catalyst 9105 AP and if you enable the USB port on the AP, we recommend that you disable Power over Ethernet (PoE) on the LAN ports. You can enable PoE if you have disabled the USB port on the AP.

2. Click Update & Apply to Device to save the configuration.

1. In the High Availability tab, the names and management IP addresses of the primary, secondary, and tertiary controllers for your AP are displayed. Edit these values, if required.

2. From the AP Failover Priority drop-down list, choose the failover priority for the AP. Valid values are:

   • Low: Assigns the access point to the level 1 priority, which is the lowest priority level. This is the default value.

   • Medium: Assigns the access point to the level 2 priority.

   • High: Assigns the access point to the level 3 priority.

   • Critical: Assigns the access point to the level 4 priority, which is the highest priority level.

3. Click Update & Apply to Device to save the configuration.

The Inventory tab displays the following details:

There are two tabs present under ICAP, namely Client Telemetry Subscription and AP Subscription.

Note: This option is available on selected models.

Client Telemetry Subscription

1. In the Full Packet Trace tab, configure the following:

   1. From the Topic Status drop-down list, select whether to enable or disable full packet trace.

   2. Enable Aggregate Trace to allow aggregate tracing.

   3. In the Client MAC Filters section, enter the MAC address of the client.

2. In the Partial Packet Trace tab, configure the following:

   1. From the Topic Status drop-down list, select whether to enable or disable partial packet trace.

   2. In the Client MAC Filters section, enter the MAC address and click the + sign to add the addresses to the preferred list.

   3. In the Protocol Filter section, select the protocol type:

      • Management Type:

        • All

        • Assoc

        • Auth

      • Data Type:

        • All

        • ARP

        • DHCP

        • DHCPv6

        • DNS

        • EAP

        • ICMP

        • ICMPv6

      • Cisco Type:

        • All
        • NDP

3. In the Anomaly Detection tab, configure the following:

   1. From the Topic Status drop-down list, select whether to enable or disable anomaly detection.

   2. From the Packet-trace Trigger AP drop-down list, select whether to enable or disable to trigger packet trace.

   3. In the Client MAC Filters section, enter the MAC address and click the + sign to add the address to the preferred list.

   4. In the Timeout section, enter the DHCP frequency in seconds. The value must be in the range of 1 to 120. The default is 5.

4. In the Statistics tab, configure the following:

   1. In the Client Statistics Subscription section, from the Topic Status drop-down list, select whether to enable or disable statistics. In the Frequency field, enter the frequency value in seconds. The valid values range between 30 and 3600. The default value is 30.

   2. In the Client Filter Statistics Subscription section, from the Topic Status drop-down list, select whether to enable or disable statistics. In the Frequency field, enter the frequency value in seconds. The valid values range between 5 and 3600. The default value is 5.

   3. In the Client MAC Filters section, enter the MAC address and click the + sign to add the address to the preferred list.

5. Click Update & Apply to Device to save the configuration.

AP Telemetry Subscription

1. In the Subscriptions for AP section, select whether to enable or disable the following subscriptions:

   • RF Spectrum

   • Slot 0

   • Slot 1

   • Slot 2

2. In the Topic section, set the status and frequency for system, memory, interface, routing, radio, WLAN, and DNS statistics appropriately. The valid values for frequency ranges between 30 and 3600 seconds. The default frequency value is 30 seconds.

3. Click Update & Apply to Device to save the configuration.

The Mesh tab is displayed for outdoor access points only such as the Cisco Catalyst 9124AX Outdoor Access Point

1. In the General section, configure the following:

   1. Select the Block Child check box to sets the AP to work only as a leaf node. This AP cannot be selected by other MAPs as a parent MAP. This is disabled by default.

   2. Select the Daisy Chaining check box to enable daisy chaining. Mesh APs have the capability to daisy chain APs when they function as MAPs. The daisy chained MAPs can either operate the APs as a serial backhaul, allowing different channels for uplink and downlink access, thus improving backhaul bandwidth, or extend universal access. Daisy chaining should be enabled on both primary and subordinate MAP.

   3. Select the Daisy Chaining strict-RAP check box to enable the Root Access Point (RAP) Ethernet Daisy Chaining feature. This feature proposes a redundancy in the daisy chain, wherein, two devices act as a redundant Designated Port (DP), each connected to either end of the daisy chain. In case of a link failure, the link direction is reversed using a new STP root. In case of ethernet daisy chain topology, if a CAPWAP loss occurs on the first RAP connected to a device, the entire chain loses its uplink. This takes a long time to recover. Thereby, if the RAP ethernet daisy chain is enabled, the CAPWAP data keepalive is extended to three times.

   4. Enter the Preferred Parent MAC address.

   5. Select the VLAN Trunking Native check box to enable native VLAN trunking and enter the VLAN trunk number. The VLAN must be in the range of 1 to 4095.

   6. From the Role drop-down list, select an AP role:

      • Root: A root access point is a mesh-capable access point that is set up with a wired connection to your network and provides Internet connectivity to the extender access point.

      • Mesh: The Mesh AP is the gateway between the wireless mesh network and the enterprise wired LAN. Mesh APs locate and associate with their nearest neighbor, which provides the best path to the mesh portal. Mesh portals and mesh points are also known as mesh nodes, a generic term used to describe APs configured for mesh.

   7. Click on the delete icon to Remove PSK. This will delete the PSK provisioning.

2. In the Backhaul section, the default Backhaul Radio Type, Backhaul Slot ID and the Rate Types is displayed.

   The Radio Type and Slot can be changed only for a Root AP. Select the backhaul rate type from Rate Types from the drop-down list.

   Based on the rate type, input the details for the corresponding fields that display. The backhaul interface vary between auto and 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax rates depending upon the access point. Cisco Catalyst 9124AX Outdoor Access Point is the only AP to support 11ax backhaul rates on the mesh backhaul.

   Mesh backhaul data rate can be set to auto or entered manually. For auto rates, the highest rates supported by both, the parent and child MAPs are used. When setting the rates manually, a fixed rate is selected based on number of Spatial Stream (SS) and Modulation Coding Scheme (MCS). Specify the MCS rates at which data can be transmitted between the access point and the client. The supported range is 0 to 11 on both the radio bands. Maximum number of spatial streams supported on a single radio in a 5 GHZ radio band is 8, while 2.4 GHZ radio band supports 4 spatial streams.

3. In the Ethernet Port Configuration section, select a Port from the drop-down list and assign a port Mode from the drop-down list.In the VLAN ID field, enter the VLAN ID.

   Ethernet Bridging on the associated Mesh Profile should be enabled to configure this section successfully.

4. Click Update & Apply to Device to save the configuration.

The Advanced tab displays the following details:

To configure advanced parameters:

1. In the Advanced section, configure the following:

   1. Select a country code from the drop-down list.

   2. Select the mDNS check box to enable mDNS and enter the VLAN ID in the VLAN field.

      Note: This option is available on selected models and if mDNS is enabled in Configuration > Services > mDNS.

2. In the VLAN Tag section, configure the following:

   1. Check the check box to enable VLAN tag.

      Note that when changing the VLAN Tag, there is a momentary loss of association of the AP with the controller.

   2. Enter a number between 1 and 4094 to represent VLAN tag.

3. In the AP Image Management section, configure the following:

   1. Click the to start the image predownload.

   2. Click the to swap the image.

4. In the AP Crash Data section, click the to download AP crash data logs to the bootflash.

5. In the Hardware Reset section, configure the following:

   1. Click the to reset the AP.

   2. Click the to reset the CAPWAP connection without resetting the AP.

6. In the Set to Factory Default section, select one of the following:

   1. Clear All Config: Clears configuration on the AP and resets the AP to factory defaults.

   2. Clear Config except Static IP: Clears configuration except static IP.

   3. Clear Personal SSID Config: Clears the personal SSID from an AP.

   4. Clear Resolved Tag Config: Clears the saved tags on an AP.

In the Support Bundle tab, you can view the State, Transfer Mode, Server IP, File Path, and Time of Export of the last export.

To configure additional support bundle configurations:

1. Select one of the following type of Destination:

   • This Controller: Enter the Server IP, Destination File Path, Username, and Password.

   • External Server: From the Transfer Mode drop-down list, select one of the following:

     • scp: Enter the Server IP, Destination File Path, Username, and Password.

     • tftp: Enter the Server IP, and Destination File Path.

2. Click the Start Transfer button.

The Configure tab allows you to configure parameters for a selected radio.

The Configure tab displays the following details:

To configure parameters:

1. In the General section, configure the following:

   1. Enable Admin Status to enable the radio.

   2. Depending on the AP capability, enable the CleanAir Admin Status field or the Spectrum Admin Status to detect and report any interferes for the AP on that radio band.

      Note: The Spectrum Admin Status setting is available for the 5 GHz Band and 2.4 GHz Band radio only and only for APs that support Spectrum Intelligence. .

   3. Enable the Dual Radio Mode field to enable the dual radio. Once you enable Dual Radio Mode, the Admin Status changes to green.

      Note: This setting is available for the 5 GHz Band and 2.4 GHz Band radio only.

2. In the Antenna Parameters section, configure the following:

   1. If the antenna type is External, in the Antenna Gain field, enter or update the gain to specify an external antenna’s ability to direct or focus radio energy over a region of space. High-gain antennas have a more focused radiation pattern in a specific direction. The antenna gain is measured in 0.5-dBi units, and the default value is 7 times 0.5-dBi, or 3.5-dBi.

   2. Choose antenna A, B, C, or D, as required.

3. In the Role Assignment section, select the assignment method.

   Note: The Role Assignment section is displayed on models that support dual-band radio.

   The addition of the Dual-Band (XOR) radio in the slot 0 position provides the ability to operate a single radio interface in a mode, eliminating the need to place the whole AP into a mode. When this concept is applied to a single radio level, its is called role.

   The available options are:

   • Auto

   • Monitor

   • Client Serving

     To change the selected band, from the Band Selection drop-down list, select the band and click Update & Apply to Device.

   • Sniffer

     To change the selected band, from the Band Selection drop-down list, select the band and click Update & Apply to Device.

   If dart connector is connected, the Dart Connector status is displayed.

4. In the Sniffer Channel Assignment section, configure the following:

   Note: This section is displayed if the Assignment Method is set to Sniifer.

   1. From the Snif Channel drop-down list, select the channel.

      Note: By default the Snif Channel is set to 36 for the 5 GHz Band and Snif Channel is set to 1 for the 2.4 GHz Band.

   2. In the Sniffer IP field, enter the IP address.

      To validate the IP address, click Update & Apply to Device. If the IP address is valid, the Sniffer IP Status displays Valid.

5. In the RF Channel Assignment section, configure the following:

   Note: You can edit this section only if the Assignment Method is set to either Client Serving or Sniffer.

   1. From the RF Channel width drop-down list, select the channel width.

   2. From the Assignment Method drop-down list, choose the the type of assignment. If you choose Custom, you must specify a channel number to assign an RF channel to the access point radio.

6. In the Tx Power Level Assignment section, from the Assignment Method drop-down list, choose the required method. If you choose Custom, you must specify a custom value to assign a transmit power level to the access point radio.

   Note: You can edit this section only if the Assignment Method is set to either Client Serving or Sniffer.

   The transmit power level is assigned an integer value instead of a value in mW or dBm. The integer corresponds to a power level that varies depending on the regulatory domain in which the access points are deployed. The number of available power levels varies based on the access point model. However, power level 1 is always the maximum power level allowed per country code setting, with each successive power level representing 50% of the previous power level. For example, 1 = maximum power level in a particular regulatory domain, 2 = 50% power, 3 = 25% power, 4 = 12.5% power, and so on.

7. In the BSS Color section, and from the BSS Color Configuration drop-down list, choose either Global or Custom configuration.

   • If you choose Global, the global BSS color configuration will be applied to the radio configurations.

   • If you choose Custom, you can customize the BSS color configuration for the AP radios. To do so, enable the BSS Color Status and specify a corresponding BSS color for the AP radio in the Current BSS Color field. The valid range is between 1 and 63.

   Note: The BSS Color section is visible only for those APs that support BSS color configuration.

8. Click Core Dump to download the core dump to bootflash.

9. Click Update & Apply to Device to save the configuration.

The Detail tab displays the AP details, static configuration parameters, operation rate parameters, and advanced parameters for a selected radio.
