Introduction
There are various models of Cisco Catalyst 9200 and 9200L switches. These models can be classified into three major categories:
(a) Non Power over Ethernet (PoE) models with any number of ports support only 125W power supplies in either of the two slots. These models can be identified by the "T" in their model name.
(b) 24 port PoE models support only 600W power supplies in either of the two slots. These models can be identified by "24P" in their model name.
(c) 48 port PoE models support only 1000W (1KW) power supplies in either of the two slots. These models can be identified by "48P" in their model name.
In other words, each Catalyst 9200 or Catalyst 9200L switch supports power supply of exactly one wattage value.
Problem
Each of the above three categories of Catalyst 9200 and 9200L switches support power supply of a unique wattage value. If an unsupported power supply is accidently inserted, there will be a syslog similar to-
%PLATFORM_FEP-1-FRU_PS_INCOMPATIBLE: Switch 1: power supply A is incompatible and will be turned off
Solution
It is possible that user may accidently mix and match power supplies meant for these three categories of C9200/C9200L switches. As Catalyst 9200 and 9200L switches do not allow interchangeable use of power supplies of more than one wattage in either of their two slots, syslog above will be thrown. This syslog tells the switch number (if in stack) and the power supply slot (A or B) where incompatible power supply has been inserted. Remove it and replace it with a supported power supply.
