404 Not Found Error when accessing Enterprise Security Threat Intelligence Management

Applicability

Splunk Enterprise Security 6.4 and above

Description

When the ES has custom navigation on the Enterprise Security app and Enterprise Security is upgraded to 6.4.0 or later, the 404 error will be shown when accessing the following views:
  • Configure > Data Enrichment > Threat Intelligence Management
  • Configure > Data Enrichment > Threat Intelligence Uploads

Investigation

1. Please note that the following views have been deprecated since ES 6.4.0:
  • Configure > Settings > Data Inputs > Threat Intelligence Manager

  • Configure > Data Enrichment > Threat Intelligence Uploads
url: <your SH FQDN/IP>/en-GB/app/SplunkEnterpriseSecuritySuite/upload_threatintel_doc​​​​​​
2. Verify if the ES instance has a custom navigation override:
  • In $SPLUNK_HOME/etc, run command:   
    find . -name "*.xml" | grep "local"
  • Select previous version via GUI
    • ES > Audit > ES Configuration Health > Mode (Local Overrides) and Select Previous ES Version

Resolution

Restore to default navigation bar
  1. On the Enterprise Security menu bar, select Configure > General > Navigation
  2. In the upper right corner, click Restore Default Configuration.
  3. Click OK to confirm
  4. Click Save
After default navigation bar has been restored, you may proceed with customising the navigation bar again. This will remove deprecated views on the newer ES version.
