How can I perform Cisco License On-Prem (CLP) synchronization with Cisco License Central (CLC)?

Introduction 

This document provides instructions for synchronizing Cisco License On-Prem (CLP) deployments with Cisco License Central (CLC). This procedure applies to both Smart Licensing (SL) and Smart Licensing Using Policy (SLP) devices.

Prerequisites  

Before you start, ensure that you have the following:

  • An active Cisco.com account.
  • Admin access to Cisco License On-Prem (CLP) portal.
  • Access to the Smart Account associated with your On-Prem accounts.
  • The user accessing Cisco License Central (CLC) must have at least one of the following:
    • Smart Account User/Admin.
    • Virtual Account User/Admin.

Steps 

Network (Online) Synchronization:

Step 1: Access the Cisco License On-Prem(CLP) portal - (https://(IP Address):8443/#/mainview/). 

Step 2: Navigate to the Licensing workspace from the left-hand menu.

Step Results: All Cisco License On-Prem (CLP) account-related details are consolidated on one dashboard:

  • On-Prem Account Name
  • Sync Status
  • Last Sync
  • Smart Account
  • Virtual Account
  • Licenses
  • Devices
  • Product Analytics & Others
  • You may customize your view using the Settings button in the top right.

Step 3: Use the Filters or Search bar to locate the specific On-Prem account. Click the three-dot icon in the leftmost column.

Step 4: Select Initiate network (online) sync from the dropdown menu.

Step Results: You can monitor the progress in the Sync Status column.

Manual (Offline) Synchronization:  

Step 1: Access the Cisco License On-Prem (CLP) portal - (https://(IP Address):8443/#/mainview/). 

Step 2: Navigate to Licensing Workspace from the left-hand menu bar.

Step 3: Locate the target account using the filters or search bar, then click the three-dot icon in the rightmost column.

Step 4: Select Initiate manual (offline) sync from the dropdown menu.

Step 5: In the pop-up window, click the Generate an On-Prem Account synchronization file hyperlink and save the file to your local computer.

Step Results: Usage File will be downloaded to your local directory

Step 6: Log in to Cisco Software Central using your Cisco.com credentials.

Step 7: Under the Cisco License Central section, click Access Cisco License Central.

Step 8: Locate your Smart Account using the search function.

Step 9: Navigate to the Devices tab and select Device Managers under Device Connections.

Step 10: Select the relevant On-Prem account, click the three-dot icon in the rightmost column, and select Upload sync file.

Step 11: Upload the file generated in Step 5 and click Next.

Step 12: Review the file information and click Submit. Once the confirmation page appears, click Close.

Step 13: In the same Device Managers view, click the three-dot icon for the account again and select Download latest response file.

Step Results: The latest response file will be downloaded to your local directory

Step 14: Return to your Cisco License On-Prem portal (https://(IP Address):8443/#/mainview/).

Step 15: Navigate to the Licensing workspace, and repeat Step 3 to select your account.

Step 18: Select Initiate manual (offline) sync and upload the response file downloaded in Step 13.

Step Results: You can see progress in the Sync Status column.

Note: This synchronization procedure is applicable for both Smart Licensing and Smart Licensing Using Policy (SLP) devices.

Scheduled Synchronization:

Step 1: Access the Cisco License On-Prem (CLP) portal - (https://(IP Address):8443/#/mainview/). 

Step 2: Navigate to Admin Workspace from the left-hand menu bar.

Step 3: Select the Synchronisation tab, then click on the Scheduled Sync tab located at the top of the page.

Step 4: Check the Enable Scheduled sync box. Configure the following parameters:

  • Start Date: The date you wish the scheduled synchronization to begin.
  • Frequency: How often the synchronization should occur (e.g., daily, weekly).
  • Time of Day: The preferred time for synchronization in UTC (Hour and Minute).

Step 5: Click Apply

Step Results: A confirmation message will be displayed, indicating that your scheduled synchronization settings have been successfully updated.

Disabling Scheduled Synchronization:

If you need to disable scheduled synchronization for a specific On-Prem account, follow these steps:

Step 1: Navigate to the Admin workspace.

Step 2: Select the Synchronisation tab.

Step 3: Locate the specific On-Prem account from the list.

Step 4: Click the three-dot icon in the account row and select Disable scheduled sync.
