Description

Cisco IOS® Software Release 11.0 is a direct superset of Cisco IOS Software Release 10.3(x) and was released on September 18, 1995. Cisco IOS Software Release 11.0(x) reached its general deployment (GD) milestone on September 23, 1996, with Cisco IOS 11.0(11). All subsequent maintenance releases thereafter are also GD certified.

Maintenance Releases

Cisco IOS Software Release 11.0 uses a 14-week release model. A maintenance release is delivered once every 13 weeks. An interim build is executed once every three weeks.

Interim Builds

Interim builds are not recommended and are not fully tested. Customers will only be provided with interim builds when a critical defect renders the maintenance release unusable.

7-week maintenance cycle:	Prior to Cisco IOS Software Release 11.0(15).
13-week maintenance cycle:	A maintenance release is delivered once every 13 weeks after Cisco IOS Software Release 11.0(15).

Recommended Migration

If currently using Cisco IOS Software Release 11.0(x), the recommended upgrade path is to Cisco IOS 11.2 or 12.0(x). If currently using Cisco IOS Software Release 11.0BT, the recommended upgrade path is to Cisco IOS 11.2, 11.2BC, or 12.0.

The migration path is the logical superseding software. The uniqueness of each network requires that customers verify support for hardware, features, and protocols prior to a massive network upgrade.

Year 2000 (Y2K) Compliant

Cisco IOS Software Release 11.0 is Y2K compliant.

General Deployment (GD) Plan

Cisco IOS Software Release 11.0(15) was the first GD certification on the Cisco IOS 11.0 release train.

Life Cycle

Cisco IOS Software Release 11.0 is tentatively scheduled to reach end of engineering (EOE) in July 2000 with Cisco IOS 11.0(28). The Cisco IOS Software Release 11.0 repository is currently "locked." The branch is in a restricted maintenance phase, indicating that only defects found by customers with a severity level of S1 or S2 and/or P1 or P2 will be considered for approval to be fixed in this release. Customers are strongly encouraged to migrate to newer release trains.
