Cisco MGX-AUSM-8T1/E1/B ATM UNI Service Modules


The Cisco T1/E1/IMA ATM UNI service modules (AUSMs) are designed for use with the MGX 8220 Edge Concentrator, the MGX 8230 and MGX 8250 multiservice gateways and the MGX 8800 series wide-area edge switches. The MGX-AUSM-8T1 And MGX-AUSM-8E1 offer eight T1s or E1s for flexible configuration of T1, E1, and IMA UNIs providing up to 16 Mbps of bandwidth for ATM service interfaces for the new world of data networking.

The MGX multiservice switches offer the industry's widest breadth of service interfaces and unmatched deployment flexibility. By integrating Cisco IOS software capabilities with carrier-class ATM functionality, the MGX 8800 provides a single-box solution for IP+ATM service deployment.

The T1/E1 AUSM/B cards provide eight T1 or E1 interfaces, with full support for flexible configuration of T1 UNIs, E1 UNIs, and ATM Forum-Compliant Inverse Multiplexing for ATM (IMA) n x T1 and n x E1 ATM UNIs.

Highlights

AUSM/B cards provide native ATM UNI (compliant with ATM Forum V.3.0, V.3.1, and V.4.0) interfaces at T1 and E1 speeds, with eight ports per card. Consistent with Cisco's intelligent quality of service (QoS) management features, AUSM/B cards support per-VC queuing on ingress and multiple class-of-service queues on egress. AUSM/B cards fully support continuous bit rate (CBR), variable bit rate (VBR), unspecified bit rate (UBR), and available bit rate (ABR) service classes.

AUSM/B cards also support ATM Forum-compliant inverse multiplexing for ATM (IMA). This capability enables multiple T1 or E1 lines to be grouped into a single high-speed ATM port. This n x T1 and n x E1 capability fills the gap between T1/E1 and T3/E3, providing bandwidth up to 12 Mbps (n x T1) or 16 Mbps (n x E1), without requiring a T3/E3 circuit.

A single AUSM/B card can provide hot standby redundancy for all active AUSM/B cards of the same type (1:n redundancy).

AUSM/B modules are supported by standards-based management tools, including Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) for configuration and statistics collection, and a command-line interface. Cisco's WAN Manager service management tool provides full graphical user interface support for connection and equipment management.

  • With IMA disabled, each T1 or E1 interface configured as a single port running at full line rate

  • With IMA, any group of n x T1s or n x E1s can support an n x T1 or n x E1 port

  • With IMA, multiple IMA ports of any configuration supported per card (a specific T1 or E1 line can be in only one T1/E1 or IMA port at a time)

  • Upon T1/E1 circuit failure, an IMA port automatically adjusts to continue operation over remaining circuits

ATM Layer

  • Supports UNI (complies with ATM Forum UNI 3.0 and 3.1 specifications) and NNI formats

  • Supports virtual path connections (VPCs) and virtual channel connections (VCCs)

  • Supports up to 1000 connections, allocated in any manner across the ports on the card

  • Supports virtual path identifier (VPI) values of zero to 255; virtual channel identifier (VCI) values of zero to 4095

  • OA&M support for monitoring end-to-end AIS and RDI. Can generate and monitor segment loopback flows for VPCs and VCCs
