A: SMS is the abbreviation for Short Message Service. SMS messages are primarily communications to mobile or cell phone devices.

Q: Why can't I receive the entire content of an article via SMS message?

A: The SMS standard specification supports 160 characters as the maximum all carriers must support. We have implemented our platform to support the industry standard.

Q: Who is "+91 9901218888"?

A: This number has been registered by Cisco to communicate to customers via text messages in India. This allows you to validate that a text message is from Cisco and not a third party.

Q: How do I sign-up?

A: At the top of this page, click the "register now" link. You will be asked to log in to If you have not previously registered for a Cisco user ID and password, you will be asked to register. When you have logged in, we will ask you a few questions about your device and show you a selection of topics about which you can choose to be alerted when new content is published. When you click Submit, a thank you screen will confirm that you have been registered.

After you have registered online, you will receive a text message on your mobile device asking you to confirm your wish to subscribe to the service. You will be asked to reply to the message with the word "Confirm." After you enter "Confirm," we will send you a message confirming that you have subscribed to the service.

Q: Why do I need to reply to the initial message with the word "accept"?

A: When a user registers for our SMS service online we have no way to confirm that the number the user enters belongs to the person registering. We are following industry standard practice to ask you to confirm via your cell phone that you wish to receive further text messages from Cisco. If you do not confirm your wish to subscribe, you will receive no messages about new content or event reminders.

Note: If you change your cell phone number, you will be asked to confirm your new number via a SMS message on your new phone number.

Q: How much will this cost me?

A: Cisco will not charge you for this service. Your carrier may charge you for receiving and sending the text messages. You should check with your carrier to find out what you will be charged for SMS messages before signing up for this service.

Q: How do I update my cell phone info, change my topic subscriptions or cancel my subscription to this service?

A: To change your information or subscriptions, click on the “register now” link at the top of this page and log in to access your account page where you can change the information you previously entered about your device or topics.

If you wish to cancel your subscription to this service, choose the "unsubscribe" option in the drop-down box at the bottom of the page. You can also send a text message to +91 9901218888 with the word "stop" and you will be unsubscribed from the service.

Note: If you unsubscribe from this service, you will not receive any SMS event reminders that you previously requested.

Q: Will I receive un-solicitied messages from Cisco via an SMS message?

A: We will send you only the information that you request.
