This section highlights new NCS 4000 features for Release 6.5.28:

Software

The following software features have been introduced in Release 6.5.28:

Laser Squelching

Squelching supports the laser shutdown of the client signal when there is a failure in the OTN network. When the network is down, squelching saves power. The Squelched alarm is raised on the client controller when the laser is squelched. Squelching is supported on the NCS4K-24LR-O-S, NCS4K-2H10T-OP-KS, and NCS4K-4H-OPW-QC2 cards.

Idle Frames

Idle frames are used to prevent unnecessary switching at the client end. When there is a fault in the client signal, valid idles frames are sent in the downstream direction on the ten GigE, forty GigE, or hundred GigE client interface instead of raising an AIS or LF. This prevents unnecessary switching at the client end. Idle frames are supported on the ethernet mapper ODUs of the NCS4K-4H-OPW-QC2 card.

Port Optimization

The number of QSFP+ pluggables used on the client and network side of the NCS4K-4H-OPW-QC2 card can be optimised.

For more information on the above software features, see the Configuration Guide for Cisco NCS 4000 Series.

Hardware

The following hardware has been introduced in Release 6.5.28:

QSFP to SFP+ Adapter

QSFP to SFP+ adapter (PID: CVR-QSFP-SFP10G) is a pluggable adapter module that allows a SFP+ optical module to be plugged in to QSFP+ ports (ports 0 to 9) of the NCS4K-4H-OPW-QC2 line card. The QSFP to SFP+ adapter provides 10G support on the NCS4K-4H-OPW-QC2 line card.

For details regarding the adapter, see the Installing Route Processor Cards, Fabric Cards, and Line Cards chapter of the Hardware Installation Guide for Cisco NCS 4000 Series.

Support for ACBEL Power Module

The NCS 4000 chassis supports the ACBEL power module. When a Delta power module is replaced with an ACBEL power module, and if the software version is an older one, then, there are a few limitations with respect to the behavior of the ACBEL power modules.

For details of the limitations, see the Removing and Replacement chapter of the Hardware Installation Guide for Cisco NCS 4000 Series.

Cisco Bug Search Tool

Use the Bug Search Tool (BST) to view the list of outstanding and resolved bugs in a release.

BST, the online successor to Bug Toolkit, is designed to improve the effectiveness in network risk management and device troubleshooting. The tool allows partners and customers to search for software bugs based on product, release, and keyword, and aggregates key data such as bug details, product, and version. The tool has provision to filter bugs based on credentials to provide external and internal bug views for the search input.

Search Bugs in BST

Procedure

Step 1

Go to https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/. You will be prompted to log into Cisco.com. After successful login, the Bug Toolkit page open.

Step 2

Enter the bug ID in the Search For: field. To search for release bugs, enter the following parameters in the page:

  1. Search For ― Enter NCS4k in the text box.

  2. Releases ― Enter the release number.

  3. Show Bugs ― Select Affecting or Fixed in these Releases

Step 3

Press Enter.

  • By default, the search results include bugs with all severity levels and statuses, and bugs that were modified during the life cycle of the bug. After you perform a search, you can filter your search results to meet your search requirements.

  • An initial set of 25 search results is shown in the bottom pane. Drag the scroll bar to display the next set of 25 results. Pagination of search results is not supported.
