The Remote Access Dial-In User Service (RADIUS) is a mechanism used to regulate access to a computer network by users. The RADIUS server checks passwords entered by users and either grants or denies access based upon the password given. For example, a public wireless (Wi-Fi) network is installed on a university campus. Everyone cannot use these networks, only those students to whom the university has given a password can access the network.
This article explains how to connect to the RADIUS server on the WAP121 and WAP321 Access Points.
• WAP121
• WAP321
• 1.0.3.4
Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility and choose System Security > RADIUS Server. The RADIUS Server page opens:
Step 2. Click the desired radio button as per the IP address type of the RADIUS server in the Server IP Address Type field. The available options are:
• IPv4 — The RADIUS server supports IPv4 IP address type.
• IPv6 — The RADIUS server supports IPv6 IP address type.
Timesaver: If IPv6 is clicked in the previous step, then skip to Step 5.
Step 3. Enter the IP addresses of the primary RADIUS server in the Server IP Address-1 field. This is the IPv4 address of the RADIUS server to which the user tries to connect in order to authenticate and get access to the WAP. If you want to enter additional IP addresses as backups for the primary RADIUS server then enter the addresses in IP Address-2 to IP Address-4 fields.
Step 4. Enter the password key for the Server IPv4 Address in the Key-1 field. If you want to enter additional keys for the backup RADIUS servers, then enter in Key-2 to Key-4 fields. This is the key that is shared between the WAP and the RADIUS server and should match the key configured on the RADIUS server. The key can contain alphanumeric and special characters and range from 1 to 64 characters in length.
Step 5. Enter the IPv6 address of the primary RADIUS server in the Server IPv6 Address-1 field. If you want to enter additional IPv6 addresses to backup primary RADIUS server then enter in IPv6 Address-2 to IPv6 Address-4 fields.
Step 6. Enter the password key for the Server IPv6 Address in the Key-1 field. If you want to enter additional keys to the backup RADIUS servers then enter in Key-2 to Key-4 fields. The key can contain alphanumeric and special characters and range from 1 to 64 characters in length.
Step 7. (Optional) If you want the RADIUS server to log information about individual dial-in connections, check the Enable check box in the RADIUS Accounting field.
Step 8. Click Save.
