Introduction
This document describes changes to the Umbrella edge data centers in South Africa.
Overview
Starting December 2nd, 2021, these Umbrella edge data changes are in effect:
- Cape Town, South Africa is a brand new location for Umbrella. Customers can now connect to it for full SIG services, including DNS, Secure Web Gateway, and Cloud Delivered Firewall.
- Johannesburg, South Africa is now enabled for full SIG services, including cloud delivered firewall (it was previously DNS, and secure web gateway only).
A new region was created for IPsec tunnel connections: AF-1. Cape Town and Johannesburg are the two members of this region. Connections to one of these data centers are automatically redirected to the other in case of maintenance or outage.
Both data centers are located in carrier neutral Teraco co-location facilities with peering in NAPAfrica Internet Exchange.
The upgrades to these edge data centers expand our rapidly growing global network. Due to our innovative global cloud architecture and anycast routing, most customers in these regions automatically connect to the upgraded data centers.
Also, while we strive to maintain high uptime for all of our data centers, our augmented routing solution seamlessly and automatically routes traffic to the next nearest data center if for any reason a data center is unavailable, even for IPsec tunnels.
