This document describes how to reset the Salt value for Security for Chromebook Client.

Overview

This article explains the steps you can use to reset the Salt value for the configuration of Security for Chromebook Client.

At the time of writing this article, you cannot reset the configured Salt value through the Umbrella dashboard. The Salt value is necessary for Domain Name System (DNS) layer protection in Security for Chromebook Client because it uses DNS over HTTPS (DoH) to send DNS queries to Umbrella resolvers, as described in the deployment guideline.

If you need to reset the Salt value due to a configuration error or another concern, you must raise a support ticket.

Reset Salt Value

Raise a support ticket requesting to reset the Salt value. A Technical Consulting Engineer (TCE) from the support team can enable the reset option for your organization so you can update the Salt value yourself.

Once the TCE enables the reset option, configure the Salt value:

Log in to your Umbrella dashboard.
Navigate toAdministration > Chromebook Configuration.
Locate the Salt value field.
Click theConfigureoption next to the Salt value.
Enter your new Salt value and save your changes.

After you complete these steps, your Chromebook Client configuration uses the new Salt value.

You can compare the Chromebook configuration section before and after the TCE enables the reset option for the Salt value in the Umbrella dashboard.
