Configure Web Policy Block List for Youtube

Introduction

This document describes how to block Youtube and allow only certain videos in web policy.

Overview

1. Create a rule in web policy blocking to block Youtube applications.

2. Go to Policies > Destination Lists and create a new destination list:

• googlevideo.com
• www.youtube.com/s/player
• www.youtube.com/s/desktop

You can also create a list of videos you want to allow, for example: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEJn6eQO6FE

Note: If the videos are embedded in a different website, add the list of videos as:
www.youtube.com/embed/86YE_b3OVL4 instead of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyz

For embedded videos, add these destinations to the newly-created destination list:

• youtube.com/s/player in addition to www.youtube.com/s/player
• youtube.com/s/desktop in addition to www.youtube.com/s/desktop

An embedded link allows you to watch a YouTube video directly on a different website, without needing to visit youtube.com.

Create a second rule within the applicable Web Policy with a Rule Action of Allow, Identities set for Ruleset Identities, and Destinations set to the destination list that was just created. Place this new rule at the top of the ruleset to ensure it has first priority.
