Troubleshoot when Documentation Is Required to Verify Network Ownership

Introduction

This document describes the procedure to follow when encountering errors during network registration or when Cisco TAC requests documentation to verify network ownership.

The information in this document is based on Cisco Security products. This document was created in a specific lab environment. All devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, ensure that you understand the potential impact of any command.

Problem

You may encounter one of the following error messages when attempting to add a network identity:

• "Network Already Exists."

• "Network is a subnet of an existing closed network."

• "A network of this size requires manual verification by Umbrella Support. This can take time to complete, and you may be contacted to supply evidence that you or your company owns this block of addresses. Without proof, registration shall be unsuccessful."

These errors indicate that the network you are attempting to add is already registered or that the network size exceeds the threshold for automated processing, necessitating further ownership validation.

Required Documentation

Depending on the specific IP address or subnet, Cisco TAC may require formal proof of ownership. Acceptable forms of documentation include:

• ISP Letter: A formal letter from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) confirming the assignment of the IP address or subnet. The documentation must explicitly match the network you are attempting to register.

• ISP Correspondence: An original email from your ISP’s customer service department confirming that your organization has been assigned the specific address or subnet.

• Service Invoice: A recent invoice from your ISP that clearly lists the assigned IP address or subnet. The address or subnet must be explicitly identified on the invoice.

If you are unable to provide the documentation listed above, you may be unable to register the IP address under your organization.
