Applicability

Splunk Real User Monitoring

Description

Android RUM custom events and navigation details appear to be missing or not captured during user sessions. This issue is primarily observed in longer-running sessions.


Investigation

  1. Navigate to the RUM section in Splunk Observability Cloud.
  2. Select Sessions and open a session where events are known to be missing.
  3. To verify whether the application is generating events, enable debug logging by setting .enableDebug() in the SplunkRum builder.
  4. Review the RUM logs to confirm whether the custom events have been captured.
  5. Check the Session Timeline at the top of the page for the recorded events.

Resolution

  1. Open the affected session in the Splunk Observability Cloud GUI.
  2. At the top of the session view, navigate to the Session Timeline.
  3. Locate the rectangular selection box within the timeline.
  4. Click and drag the edges of the selection box to cover the specific time range, or extend it to include the entire session duration.
  5. Once the desired interval is selected, the UI will refresh and display the events captured during that time range.

This way, all captured RUM custom events can be viewed in a session by adjusting the rectangular selection box in the session timeline.
