The Splunk RUM Mapping File Plugin is used in Android applications to generate mapping files for real user monitoring (RUM). After upgrading to AGP 9.0.1, builds succeed, but the plugin logs the following message:
Splunk RUM: [Setup] Android application plugin not found, skipping setupNo additional logs are emitted, even with maximum Gradle verbosity. This occurs because AGP 9.0 removed access to certain older DSL implementation classes, such as AppExtension, which the plugin relies on to detect Android application modules.
Environment details during the observation:
Build type: release
Splunk plugin: com.splunk.rum-mapping-file-plugin v2.1.6
AGP version: 9.0.1
compileSdkVersion: 36
minSdkVersion: 29
targetSdkVersion: 36
Kotlin version: 2.3.10
The build logs indicate:
The plugin is applied correctly.
Span generation or build processes complete successfully.
Plugin setup is skipped due to inability to detect the Android application plugin.
AGP 9.0 introduced significant changes to Gradle APIs, removing access to legacy DSL classes. As a result, the plugin cannot detect the Android application plugin and skips setup. The plugin version 2.1.6 does not currently support AGP 9.0.
Wait for future plugin release:
The plugin will require an updated version to fully support AGP 9.0+
Use of the current plugin with AGP 9.0 will continue to skip setup.
Alternative (if feasible):
Downgrade AGP to a supported version (for example, AGP 8.x) to restore plugin functionality.
Build behavior:
Builds will still succeed.
Mapping file generation and plugin setup will not execute until a compatible plugin version is released.
