O11y IM - Dashboard/Chart Error Message: ANALYTICS_JOB_MTS_LIMIT_HIT

Description

You may see an error message occur on your chart or dashboard detailing the error message: ANALYTICS_JOB_MTS_LIMIT_HIT

If you see this issue, please consult the steps below in order to help resolve the issue.

Investigation

First, Identify if this issue occurs on a chart or dashboard. If this is a chart, follow the instructions for Chart. If this is a Dashboard, follow the Dashboard instructions.

Resolution

For Charts:

1. If the error is occurring on a chart, first identify the amount of metrics your signals are pulling. If there is a similar metric that charts less MTS, consider switching the metric that is being plotted. 

2. If there isn't another MTS with similar data, consider adding additional filters (dimension filtering, timeline of MTS, etc) using this documentation: https://docs.splunk.com/observability/en/data-visualization/charts/chart-options.html

For Dashboards:

1. First, identify the chart with the largest amount of MTS being charted. Move this chart off the dashboard so that the Dashboard can still be used by other users.

2. Then follow the steps detailed above for troubleshooting charts to reduce the number of MTS being plotted.
