Applicability

Splunk Enterprise 9.2.1

Description

When tried to upgrade the Splunk Universal Forwarder to 9.2.1 on the server where we are also using Splunk Enterprise on 9.2.1, not able to upgrade the Universal Forwarder to 9.2.1 with the an error.

 

 


Investigation

1. When we tried to upgrade the Splunk Universal Forwarder from 9.1.1 to 9.2.1 on the server where we are also using Splunk Enterprise on 9.2.1, we were not able to upgrade the Universal Forwarder to 9.2.1 with the below error.

file /usr/lib/.build-id/42/abc0f2a26bfb13b563104e87287312420c707e from install of splunkforwarder-9.2.1-78803f08aabb.x86_64 conflicts with file from package splunk-9.2.1-78803f08aabb.x86_64" (see attached file for more details.

 

2. The same is the case when we try to install a fresh Universal Forwarder 9.2.1 on the server where we have Splunk Enterprise 9.2.1 already installed.


Resolution

For now the workaround is to use rpm and use any of the below flags,

  1. Install with rpm using "--excludepath=/usr/lib/.build-id/"
  2. Install with rpm using "--force"

 

The --force flag works better.
