Applicability

Splunk Enterprise

Description

Issue :
After installing a new Heavy Forwarder running Splunk 8.2.1 the deployment server was unable to deploy multiple apps from a deployment server running 7.3.3.

A workaround of deleting and adding each app one at a time seemed to work ok.
As soon as multiple apps were selected it would fail to deploy.

An existing Heavy Forwarder running Splunk 7.3.3 was working fine and only the new Heavy Forwarder running 8.2.1 was affected.

Investigation

The following messages were discovered in the splunkd logs :
ERROR HttpListener - Handler for /services/streams/deployment?name=default:CSOC_TH_PHA_hf:CSOC_TH_hf_hec
sent a 370 byte response after earlier claiming a Content-Length of 10240!

WARN HTTPClient [1021367 HttpClientPollingThread_947F7CBD-4EF1-4AD0-BD2E-110D98737179] -
Download of file /opt/splunk/var/run/CSOC_TH_PHA_hf/CSOC_TH_hf_outputs-1628151050.bundle failed with status 502

Resolution

Solution:
The fix was to upgrade the Deployment Server to the same or higher version as the Heavy Forwarder clients as indicated on documentation.
