Applicability

Splunk Enterprise

Description

Instance crashes due to disk space issues.

Investigation

  1. This happens on an index cluster environment.
  2. KVstore folder can be checked at $SPLUNK_HOME/var/lib/splunk/kvstore
  3. Splunk Enterprise version 7.2.1 is being used, in some cases the issue starts after the update to this version.
  4. Splunk App for Windows Infrastructure is being used.

Resolution

Workaround:
The issue is a known issue between Splunk Enterprise 7.2.1 and the Windows Infrastructure app, where the lookups for tSessions and tHost objects grow out of control, disabling the search that populate them stabilizes the space usage on the cluster.
 
How to fix it:
Uninstall Windows Infrastructure app and reinstall to version 1.5.1.
