Splunk Enterprise Splunk Cloud Splunk Apps and Add-ons

Description

After upgrading the DB connect app, Splunk DB Connect is throwing a task server error on the configuration page UI and is unable to connect to the task server.

Investigation

Checking Splunkd logs within the Search & Reporting app to identify any potential errors by executing the following SPL query.

SPL:

ERROR:

ERROR ExecProcessor [729438 ExecProcessorSchedulerThread] - message from "/srv/reli/ecsl/splunk/etc/apps/splunk_app_db_connect/linux_x86_64/bin/server.sh" action=task_server_starfailed error=com.splunk.dbx.server.exception.EncryptionMigrationException: An error occurred during encryption algorithm migration. Check the configuration in dbx-migration.conf.

The error message indicates an issue related to encryption algorithm migration in Splunk Database Connect app. Specifically, it mentions an error during the migration process and It suggests checking the configuration in dbx-migration.conf for potential issues.

 

 


Resolution

To resolve the issue, change the onError parameter of [Encryption] stanza from FAIL_FAST to FAIL_SAFE in the dbx-migration.conf located in the path $SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps/splunk_app_db_connect/local following an restart of Splunkd services.
