Description

The Cost and Usage report is encountering issues with data ingestion in Splunk. Specifically, the process fails and produces the error: UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf-8' codec can't decode byte 0xe0 in position 7: invalid continuation byte.

Resolution

The Splunk Add-On for AWS Billing Cost and Usage Reports does not support data in Parquet format. To successfully ingest the report data into Splunk, it is necessary to use the GZ (gzip) format OR ZIP format (format needs to change from the AWS end). Ensure that the AWS Cost and Usage Report is configured to export data in GZ format for compatibility with the Splunk Add-On.
