An issue has been discovered on the Cisco Nexus 7700 Series Supervisor 2E (N77-SUP2E) modules that run NX-OS Release 6.2(2) to 6.2(18), 7.2(1)D1(1) to 7.2(2)D1(2), 7.3(0)D1(1) to 7.3(2)D1(2), 8.0(1), 8.1(1), and 8.2(1) which might prevent write operations to the on-board, embedded USB devices. A software upgrade is required in order to resolve this issue.
Refer to Cisco bug IDs CSCuv18883 and CSCvf36683 (registered customers only) for more information.
The Cisco Nexus 7700 Series Supervisor 2E module is equipped with one on-board, embedded USB device. After continuous operation for a significant amount of time, the embedded USB device might experience an error that prevents any write operations to that device.
For systems that run NX-OS Release 6.2(2) to 6.2(18), 7.2(1)D1(1) to 7.2(2)D1(2), 7.3(0)D1(1) to 7.3(2)D1(2), 8.0(1), 8.1(1), and 8.2(1), complete the Cisco Generic Online Diagnostics (GOLD) test in order to determine whether the embedded USB device has failed.
Here is an example that shows how to complete the GOLD test:
n7700# show diagnostic result module 2 test 7 detail Current bootup diagnostic level: complete Module 2: Supervisor Module-2 (Active) Diagnostic level at card bootup: complete Test results: (. = Pass, F = Fail, I = Incomplete, U = Untested, A = Abort, E = Error disabled) ______________________________________________________________________ 7) CompactFlash . Other possible indications of this issue include NX-OS failures to complete the copy running-config startup-config command or to write the file output to the bootflash device, such as show version > boot flash:show_ver.txt. If the embedded USB device has failed, refer to the instructions that are provided in the next section.
Note: The GOLD test results and file write attempts to bootflash are non-disruptive operations.
Follow the compact flash upgrade procedure described in Nexus 7000: N7k-Sup2/E Compact Flash Upgrade Procedure.
The fix for this issue has been integrated into NX-OS Release 6.2(20). This fix will also be integrated into upcoming maintenance releases for other Nexus 7000 NX-OS releases.
