Issue

An organization is planning a comprehensive upgrade of a geo-redundant Cisco TelePresence Management Suite (TMS) deployment across Data Center (DC) and Disaster Recovery (DR) sites. The upgrade scope includes Cisco UCS hardware firmware, VMware ESXi hypervisors, Windows Server operating systems, and the TMS application itself. The organization requires validation of their current setup, confirmation of supported target versions, and a detailed step-by-step upgrade sequence, with particular emphasis on database synchronization and replication procedures during the upgrade window.

Environment

  • Cisco TelePresence Management Suite (TMS) version 15.13.0

  • Geo-redundant deployment across two sites (DC and DR)

  • Total of 5 hardware nodes: 3 at DC, 2 at DR

  • DC Hardware: Cisco BE7M-M5-K9 with CIMC version 4.1(1d)

  • DR Hardware: Cisco BE6M-M5-K9 with CIMC version 3.1(2g)

  • VMware ESXi version 6.5.0

  • Windows Server 2012 operating system

  • TMS SQL Database Servers with SQL Mirroring/Replication enabled

  • Active Directory Domain Controllers at both sites

Resolution

The recommended target versions and upgrade path for the TMS deployment have been identified based on official Cisco documentation and compatibility guides.

Recommended Target Versions

TMS Application Version

The recommended target version is TMS 15.13.7. This version can be downloaded from the Cisco Software Download Center.

Windows Server Version

Microsoft Windows Server 2019 64-bit is the recommended operating system platform for TMS 15.13.7.

VMware ESXi Hypervisor

Thsee ESXi versions are supported and tested by Cisco for TMS deployments:

  • VMware ESXi 7.0

  • VMware ESXi 6.7

  • VMware ESXi 6.5

Hardware Specifications

Cisco has tested and recommended these specifications for regular deployments up to the supported maximum. The entire Cisco TMS deployment can be hosted on a single rack-mounted server using these specifications:

  • Server: Cisco UCS C220 M3S Rack Server

  • CPU: 2 x Intel Xeon Processor E5-2430 v2 (2.50 GHz)

  • Disk: 8 x 146GB 6G SAS 15K RPM SFF HDD/hot plug/drive sled mounted, in a RAID-6 configuration (Part number: A03-D146GC2)

  • Disk Controller: LSI MegaRAID 9265-8i 6Gb/s

  • Memory: 4 x 8 GB/1600 MHz

  • Hypervisor Software: VMware ESXi 7.0, 6.7, or 6.5 to host the three virtual machines
