Q. Do I need a full version of SQL Server, or can I use SQL Express for TMS?

A. TMS can operate fully with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express. Note that Express Edition is limited to databases of 4GB. The scenario where you will surpass this limit is not strictly defined, as it depends on how active your environment is, and data retention policies affect how much data TMS stores.

If your installation requires long term record keeping, auditing, or has a large number of managed systems (>250), your TMS database is likely to grow beyond the 4GB limit. In these scenarios you should consider deploying TMS with a full edition of Microsoft SQL Server.
