Q. Do I need my own SQL Server to install TMS?
A. TMS requires a compatible Microsoft SQL Server as part of its installation. This SQL Server can be local to the TMS server or installed on a separate server. This server does not have to be dedicated to TMS only; it may be utilized for other purposes.
If an existing SQL Server is not available, the TMS installer will create a local installation of Microsoft's SQL Server 2005 Express. This is a free version of SQL Server that is suitable for most small to medium TMS installations. Customers that have large networks, or significant data retention requirements, may need a full version of Microsoft SQL Server due to limitations on database size and performance in Express.
See the Release Notes for your version of TMS to verify the specific version requirements for Microsoft SQL Server.
