Oh, everyone. Thank you for joining to our expert series. We would like to keep inviting to our upcoming.00:00Serious. You can just follow this link that I am going to.00:20Paste here in the chat so you can register for our next sessions if you you can register for the ones that you are most interested. So, welcome again. This session for today is gonna be.00:25Empowering your data center, the value of inter site telemetry and I am sorry I'm gonna be your host for today. To start today, we'll be using the Slido platform for survey, so please navigate to slido.com or use.00:41It's your slido widget inside the Webex webinar to join our enabled Slido survey.01:01Enable telemetry slido survey, sorry. The passcode for today, is gonna be VCN telemetry as you can see in this screen. If you are having any issues with joining the Slido, please use the Webex chat function to let any of our of the moderators know. Let's let's start with.01:07Just an introductory slider question, where are you joining from today? Let me enable, and let's see we start receiving some answers. Okay.01:26In the meantime I'm gonna be introducing our inter site experts for today. Carlos Moreno and Manuel Vilasco is they are gonna take you through this session best practices. For the flow of the session, 1st we are gonna cover some topics for show.01:46We have, the overview, they are gonna give you an overview of Cisco intersight. Some benefits of using Cisco inter site connectivity and some requirements and integrations. Then we are be exploring a little bit more with some demos.02:06And at the end as usual, we are gonna have a section for questions and answers and we are gonna have a final slider survey, so you can have the opportunity to ask if you want to or if you want a one on one consultation, right?02:24So let's start with this 1st section that I already mentioned, right? They showed me how an overview of Cisco Intersight. I am starting to see a few answers, some people joining from Maryland, Canada, Oregon, Montreal, so thank you for those that have.02:40Participated in the Slido.03:01We have a second slider question well it's actually the 1st question, right? The 1st one was the one. Have you created a.03:05An inter site account yet, please help us answering that question. All right, and with that, I'm gonna pass the ball to my colleague Carlos, so he can start with the 1st part of the presentation. So Carlos, over to you.03:22Thank you Saida, and good morning, everyone. We are gonna start with an overview of Cisco Intersight. Cisco Intersight is a cloud based management service that provides a single view for managing not only your Cisco service.03:41But also your network devices and storage systems and because it's cloud based, you're not gonna need to spend time patching, updating, maintaining the management software itself. There are on premises options available for that. However, in this session, we're gonna focus on the cloud.04:02Capabilities of inter site and how it supports your data center networking technologies.04:22When we look at the customer experience benefits, one of the key ones is remote diagnostics collection. When you are working on a case with Cisco tech engineers, you can allow inter site to securely collect the necessary diagnostics data directly from your in your environment.04:29This is gonna avoid you, you know, the back and forth of manual lock collection and it's gonna allow the tech team to, you know, resolve the issue much faster, and this is gonna improve their overall customer experience.04:48You might be wondering which devices can be claimed and how does inter site work for data center networking. To use this service, you need to have an account on the inter site portal and creating that creating that account is completely free.05:11You just go to inter site.com and create your inter site account using your email address. The only requirement is that you need to have a valid Cisco ID attached to the email that you are gonna use.05:28Intersight offers many capabilities from setting up, setting up, and managing devices to automating tasks within your data center. Some of these capabilities require a license, however creating an inter site account and using all the feature.05:43This we are gonna be covering today is completely free.06:03As you can see on, on the screen, inter site supports Nexus dashboard UCS, ACI hyperflex now being replaced by you know Cisco hyper converged with Nutanix and more recently, we had expanded our support to include standard.06:07Alone Nexus and NDS platforms providing you with, you know, with a more comprehensive visibility across your entire data center infrastructure. What are the benefits of inter site? The benefits maybe may differ slightly depending on.06:27Which specific product you are claiming from inter site, right? For that reason, we are gonna talk specifically product by product, you know, beginning with ACI, then Nexus dashboard and then Nexus OS.06:47Standalone switches. So connecting your ACI fabric to inter site provides four key benefits that help accelerate issue resolution and improve your overall support experience.07:041st, we all know that gathering tech support locks from ACI fabric can be a time consuming process and those files can be quite large, right? So we have automated tech support collection via rapid problem resolution. So those those locks.07:21This can be automatically loaded and attached to your attack case as soon as you open it.07:40Second, we have the tag assist functionality which lets you collect and pre upload tech support files through inter site. Those logs are uploaded to a security staging area and.07:47All you need to do is let your tech engineer know that they are ready to be attached to your tech case. 3rd, another key benefit is the proactive ACI service request creation that allows the system to automatically open attack case when some known specific.08:02Issues are detected within your ACI fabric. You know, some conditions or false may.08:22Initially appeared minor but eventually lead to more significant or critical failure failures. So when you have inter site connectivity, your ACA fabric can automatically create a service request.08:29With Cisco tag for you. Finally beginning with ACI six.21, when you initiate an upgrade in ACI, your epic is gonna run external validation an external validation script that contains a set of rules that are going.08:45Be executed to evaluate, you know, the controller health cluster stability and existing all conditions. If ACI detects a critical condition that could cause the upgrade to fail.09:06So, the system is gonna block that upgrade until the issue is fixed. So the key thing here is that if the APIC has inter site connectivity, it's gonna automatically the latest validation rules directly directly from inter site so you don't need to.09:24Manually download the files from the Cisco.09:44Software download page and then upload them to the apic. So, you know, keep in mind that this works automatically when an upgrade is initiated in the, in the apic. For next dashboard, we have several benefits.09:471st enhanced visibility, so ND provides you with visibility of, you know, your next, your network health performance anomalies and so on and so forth. The benefit of having it connected to intersite is that you are gonna receive automatically updated metadata from.10:08Site for those anomalies.10:26Then about operational effici efficiency, it's very similar to what we've just discussed for ACI, right? E.g., if you have onboarded your network devices to Nexus dashboard and that ND has inter site connectivity, you can use the lock collector feature to.10:29You know collect and upload logs from those network devices to the inter site cloud.10:49And, it also provides or enables Cisco tag to trigger on demand lock collection for network devices at your site and retrieve the locks directly which and you know save you a lot of time.10:55And effort. Many is gonna show us this in the next demo and when when it comes to proactive issue resolution and security and the offers a key advantage.11:12If you've used insights before, you are likely familiar with advisories. Advisories provide you with the, you know, proactive notifications about security vulnerabilities, what we call the search as well as and end of life announcements that, you know, are potentially.11:29Or could be potentially impacting your infrastructure. So by claiming your ND in inter site you're you enable the automatic download.11:49Of updated updated metadata for those advisories. So this is gonna give you up to date with the light latest information and you know, aware of anything that might impact your environment.12:00So, you know, if you choose not to enable inter site connectivity, that's fine, but you will need to manually or, you know, to manage, to manage those metadata files manually.12:16You need to go to, you know, DC app center.cisco.com to download the latest updates yourself and upload them to ND. So using inter site connectivity is much easier, more, you know.12:33Automated way to stay up to date. And we have the standalone Nexus NXOS switches. So, here we also have the.12:49Automated collection of show tech support details when you open the case and pro and provide you know the serial number of the failing device and the remote on demand collection of show tech support, meaning that the tech engineer can trigger that at any point during the.13:06Life cycle of the case, they can gather that tech support without having to bother you. So similar to what we talked about with ACI. In the future, things under consideration are go also bring, bringing those proactive.13:26Access service request to a standalone Nexus switches and on demand collection of individual show commands. Here is an example of what attack engagement would look like without Intersight and.13:46In the next slide, we are we're gonna see how it's gonna work with inter site. So as you can see here, the timeline we are looking at from left to right, towards a single business day in total, right?14:04So, let's say that at 99aM. An end user is affected by a network issue, right? So they may raise an internal trouble ticket and then that ticket gets picked up by the network operations team, right?14:20Then the netops team follows their usual procedures, you know, checking connectivity, but eventually they decide that they need Cisco TAC assistance. So by about.14:40N A M netops, raises the tag case and you know it can take some time for the engineer to pick that. And let's say that engineer picks up the case.14:54Analyzes the situation and we probably need to request logs from the very beginning, so that will come back to the NetOps team, request the logs, you know, more information, more details about the issue. So let's say that at noon, the NetOps team receives the request. It's gonna.15:09It takes some time, you know, they collect the logs, download those logs from the apic, and then upload them to the tag case, right? So he's gonna analyze it and if needed, dig deeper into the details.15:29Then come back to the operations team and so on and so forth, right? Until the tag team provides with a solution and the issue is solved. So in total it takes about a whole day in this case where the tag team can analyze the collected logs and, you know, provide the final resolution.15:48So.16:07What can we do to optimize that? Here we have an example of how it would be, would have been if that same customer with the same issues have been, you know, using inter site telemetry functionality. So now.16:09Within this example, we don't even have to wait for an end user to detect the issue and raise an internal ticket and so on and so forth, right? What is gonna happen is that the infrastructure itself can detect the issue.16:28So at 9aM. The infrastructure itself creates the tag service request through inter site avoiding you, you know, that step where your operations team had to decide has to decide whether to open a tag case or not.16:43After that, the tag team can immediately grab the case and start performing the initial log collection so they can analyze the issue and collect additional logs as needed. And then even before.17:02We hit noon, that might be able to provide a final analysis and resolve the issue. Again, not every tag case would be like this, but we can significantly reduce the mean time to resolution for tag cases if you know if we can take advantage of these inter site functionality.17:17Right.17:37So this is an example of how or some of the benefits. So, you know, the devices are connected to the inter site portal through an inter site device connector that is embedded in the management control.17:38Of each system. So here we have an apic connected to the inter site portal using an interface an inter site device connector that is, you know, embedded in the operating system. And the APIC is gonna send all telemetry to.17:58Intercite where we have a proactive fault monitoring system that can automatically create attack case depending on, you know, the specific old code it receives. So please keep in mind that this proactive engagement feature doesn't.18:15Currently cover every single issue because the main focus is on issues that tend to, you know, cascade into larger problems and potentially had a significant impact on the infrastructure. So those are the ones being by this proactive engagement.18:32Approach. So there is a list of faults and solutions for which proactive engagements are available. So this URL points to that list and we're gonna paste it in the in the chat later during the session.18:52So you know, this is an extremely valuable program for, for many customers. All right, let's look at the requirements and integration. What do I need in order to claim?19:09My network devices in inter site. Again, we're gonna quickly review each solution beginning here with ACI. In general, there are a few common requirements across the three different solutions.19:25That we are covering today. One of the requirements is running a version that supports the inter site device connector. For ACI, the initial release of this feature was for the through for the two AJ.19:42But nowadays the minimum supported versions are five.25C and any six.X release. And, and if you look at the generally recommended ACI releases today, those are.19:58No, six.O9E and six.15e, right? Then we need three main things. The 1st one is the ability to reach SBC.inter site.com, so a quick way to verify that is by going to the.20:16CLI.20:36Running a running an NS lookup and, you know, making sure that you get a valid DNS resolution. If you don't, you may need to configure DNS settings on your, on your epic. Second, you also need to verify ah HTTPS connectivity to.20:37SDC.inter site.com you know a quick way to do that is by running a curl command like you can see here in this example. And 3rd, if your environment requires a proxy, make sure that Apic is configured to use it as well.20:57For next dashboard, it's gonna be very similar. The initial release supporting the, you know, the device connector should be yeah was 212, but keep keep in mind that the latest and the releases for that two, that one.21:18And you know, similarly in nde, the device connector should be able to resolve SDC.intersite.com in and and connect to it over HTTPS port 443. So.21:38To check that, use the current command, you know, you can SSH to any of your cluster notes and login with the rescue-user account, which is gonna use the same password as your ND admin account.21:57Again, if you need proxy, you can configure that and in the case of ND, there is one additional step. In order to claim your nexus dashboard, you must have at least.22:14One side and one site added to it, right? And for Nexus and NXOS switches, the minimum required version is ten.3S.22:29And it's pretty much the same idea. The switch must be able to resolve SBC.inter site.com and establish HTTP connectivity over TCP port 443. So you are gonna need to configure DNS and you can also configure a pro a proxy if necessary.22:44Now let's take a look at the steps required to enable device connector across the three platforms Beginning with ACI, so if you are running ACI version.23:09611 or earlier, you have the apps tab in the epic GUI that, you know, it's gonna allow you to install and run applications downloaded from.23:23Cisco DC app center.com. Here we we are we are gonna need the NICC app, you know, the Nexus Insights Cloud connector app. So make sure you have the latest version of the of that app running.23:38Or just, you know, download it and enable it on your on your epic. Next, you should validate, validate that the NICC app can collect data from all the required pods within your.23:57Fabric, then check the device connector settings and finally your ACI fabric in inter site claiming your ACI fabric in inter site. We are gonna have a demo later on about this.24:14Also in ACI but starting with version six.12 VC app center applications are NO longer supported on, on Apic.24:33The app, the app start was removed in that version, starting in with that version, and you know, ENICC capabilities are now integrated into the native functionality. So now you only need to check.24:48That the device connector is correctly configured and then your ACI fabric in inter site. Nexus dashboard is similar.25:071st, you know, validate that all the switches in the fabric are discovered correctly in ND. This is, you know, to make sure that it can check critical advisories like preserves and end of life notices on those devices.25:27Verify the ND device connector settings and then claim your ND in inter site. When working with standalone NXOS devices.25:47We must 1st confirm that the that the inter site feature is enabled. You know, you can run the show feature command to to check that. Second or security reasons, we recommend always use.26:02Using a separate VRF or, you know, inter site connectivity, by default it uses the management VRF. 3rd is you must also configure DNS, then you can optionally configure a proxy using the inter site proxy command.26:22And finally to verify that the switch is ready, you can run the command show system device connector. That command is key because it's it not only provides the claim code.26:41That we're gonna need to claim the device in inter site later on, but also after after claiming the switch, you can use it to verify the claiming state.26:57All right, that's the show me how part of this session, so we are gonna see inter site telemetry in action. So I'm gonna many many I'm gonna hand it over to you. We are gonna enter.27:12Our 1st demo for today. Thank you Carlos. Thank you everyone for joining. My name Isco and I'll be helping you with the demonstration on this particular session. Before we start the demo, just want to remind everyone if you have any questions, please use this.27:28Idle to ask any questions we got people here in the team who can help you answer any questions that you may have. With that, let me go ahead and share my desktop.27:48Just wanted to get a confirmation that you guys can see my desktop if anyone in the team can confirm. We can see it manny. Perfect. Thank you Carlos. As I mentioned for this particular demo, we're gonna do a few things, right? We wanna get you started with inter site if you don't already have an account.27:57We want to make sure that you have an inter site account because that's needed to be able to claim your devices in inter site. We are, we're also gonna go over onboarding three different devices on inter site starting with the APEC or ACI, then we're gonna show you how you can get the same onboarding via the next.28:15Nexus dashboard. And then we're gonna show you the steps to onboard on an device that is not running ACI, assuming that you don't have Nexus dashboard or you don't have ACI running. Now, as I mentioned, the very 1st step that we wanna go over is gonna be creating an account. Now, to be able to create an actual.28:35Interstate account, you have to have.28:55Your email associated to a Cisco ID or a Cisco account. If you don't have one, let's walk through those steps. Now the 1st thing you want to go to inter site.com, as I have it on this link, just want to go to inter site.com, it will take you to this page. A step number two, you wanna go ahead and create a.28:58Account.29:18If you click create account, now notice that it's taking me to the sign up page. If you do already have an email associated with the Cisco account, just type your email here and basically type your password and it'll take you to the next steps to create the account. Now, if you don't have the.29:19If you don't have it, you can, if you go on the bottom, see where it says sign up, just click where it says sign up here and it will walk you basically to the steps to associate your email to a Cisco account. Once you fill all the different sorry once you fill all the required fields here, you can register.29:38And you're gonna be able to have that email associated with this account. Very simple, not a lot going on. Now, I do have an account already, so I'm gonna go ahead and go into the account steps. Now, once you have the account, just type your email.29:58I'm gonna go ahead and do my normal login here and as I mentioned we're gonna show you how to create an actual account inter site account. Now, the 1st thing that is gonna ask you as part of the creation of this account is gonna be to select the region. Now this is gonna depend.30:15On your location of your data center, if you are in the Americas, you can use the US East account or if you're in Europe you can use your Europe central account. Now in my case, I'm in the United States. I'm gonna go ahead and use this account, my data center or my lab, it's in the united.30:35So I'm gonna keep it there.30:56So that's a step number one. Now a step number two, just as with any product, there are some general information we highly recommend that you go over the this agreement and you understand it and accept it once you are ok with it.30:57I'm gonna go ahead and accept it and I'm gonna go ahead and select next. Now the next step would be to create a name on or associate a name to this account. For this demo, I'm just gonna call it expert insight series demo, right? Very simple, and then I'm gonna click the create button.31:16We'll give it a couple of seconds here for the account to get created, and then it's gonna be, it's gonna ask you about the, the licensing. My colleague Carlos mentioned that this is a, a free service for your Nexus devices, nexus dashboard, ACI, NXOS or nine.31:35Team running an XOS code and that is true. Now when you go through the creation of the account, it is gonna ask you to register a smart license, and why? Because the you maybe registering a device that does require a license, but in our particular case, we do not have to register.31:55To a smart licensing in this case, we can select the start trial. Now if you select the start trial, it still asks you to select the a specific trial. In this case there's only one trial to select the infrastructure service and cloud orchestrator. Now this trial will give you full access of all.32:15Other benefits that come from inter site. Again, we're only focusing on the telemetry aspect for the Nexus side or the switching side, but if you have other devices such as UCS devices, maybe you wanna be able to do some monitoring management of 3rd party devices such as VMware or.32:35Other products that are not Cisco products and you wanna take advantage of the orchestration, the configuration, the management that inter site offers, you can test it with the 90 day trial. Now, what happens to the, your devices, your next devices, your ACI, your Nexus dashboard when the trial expires.32:55Nothing really happens. But you don't have to worry about having to create another account and associate your devices.33:16To get the, these benefits you don't the moment the trial expires, you go into that free basically mode where you still take advantage of the telemetry and the features that Carlos mentioned during the actual presentation. So again, don't worry about if this expires, it's normal.33:23It's not gonna keep you from logging into the account. You can still log in, you can still clean devices. Again, you just only needs the orchestration piece if you have UCS devices that you wanna manage. Now with that, I'm gonna go ahead and click start trial.33:43And then as soon as I get into the account, you're gonna get some information on basically what is inter site, some information, how to navigate through the screen. I'll let you go through that. In this case I'm just gonna go ahead and skip this steps. Now.33:56One of the things that I recommend if you are sharing an account because you can share an account with your UCS environment, just be careful if you make configuration changes to the UCS environment, right? Devices where you can actually create policy push configuration changes or even doing upgrades.34:14Just keep that in mind. When it comes to the Nexus devices, there's really not an option to make any changes unless you are using what we call the inter site assist. I'll tell you a little bit more about that. There is an integration where you can have interst the inter site assist VM where you can use it to.34:35Name your NXOS devices and that allows you to do a little bit of orchestration. For what we're gonna be doing today, there's NO option to do any configuration changes to your next devices. But again, if you are doing anything or you're sharing an account with someone else, maybe your computing, just be careful because any changes that you apply to those devices can.34:54Impact the the production environment or if they're in production or just the functionality of those. Now.35:15I have an account, right? I created an account, but there maybe multiple people in my team, right? I may have teammates, maybe five different teammates. They also want to be able to have access to this inter site account. How do we actually allow that? We don't want them to create another another account each, right? They can't, they don't have to. So one of the.35:22The options that you can do or one of the things you can do if you go to settings here, and if we go to users.35:42I can add other users to this account. So if I add a user here, right, I just add their email, right? What would be the identity in my case is Cisco but you may have a different identity what's gonna be the role? This would give them access to it. And I highly recommend that you do this in scenarios where let's say that.35:48Something went wrong, maybe the person who is managing this account, it's on a break, maybe moved to a different company, that way you don't have to recreate a new account.36:09Right, you can again is not a big deal to create a new account. You can unclaim the devices and clean those devices again, but it's just easier to have additional people that way if anything is required, you have to access. So I'm gonna go ahead and I'm not gonna add anyone here. This is just an account for this demo.36:19Now I'm gonna move into how do we get started with the onboarding or ACI environment. So now I'm gonna jump to the lab and have my ACI open. Now, one of the things actually before I start here, let me.36:37See, I'll probably be this one. Now, when it comes to ACI Carlos mentioned that if you are running ACI version six.one.one or before, there was a requirement to install an app.36:54From the, basically from the data center app center of Cisco, right? The Cisco ACIU has or used to have because not in the latest release an option to install applications that people would develop or even Cisco would develop or that you can take advantage. One of the apps happens to be the.37:11The next is inside cloud connector that was used for this inter site integration.37:31If you are running again 6111 or before that or before that, then you wanna install the app. Now the app is gonna offer a few things. It's gonna allow you to establish that connectivity with intersight. It would also give you the ability to download tech support files and upload them directly from the app into.37:37The inter site portal. Let's say that you open up a tech case and normally you only associate one serial number. That serial number would automatically get the tech support uploaded as part of the inter site integration, but let's say that you have other tech support files that you want to upload, assuming that you're running this release, you would have the option to upload other tech.37:56Support files. Now, my lab today is running version 612 and why that it matters because in 612 the app feature in in ACI is removed, so there's NO, there's NO more apps that you can install. There are predefined apps that are part of the regular menu of ACI.38:16But there's not an option to add any other application.38:36So the application that is used to integrate with inter site it's embedded into the software now. The only thing now that you have to do is claim the device via the device connector, but you don't have the option to do a manual upload from the actual.38:40From the app itself, right? Just keep that in mind if I'm if you're running 612661.two, then at that point you are basically not needing to install the app. Now also some another comment to make if you were running version six oh two eight or newer, this is when.38:58We are the.39:18The app was prepackaged as part of the installation, so you may already have this app. You wouldn't, you don't have to go to the app center, but let me show you a quick demo or a quick video. Now this particular video is for a version that requires the the app. So notice on the right, if you can see my mouse, we have a tab that says app. So the process.39:20To get to this app, that's what this video is about. So we're gonna actually show you how to install the app. So 1st of all, you go to the app tab. Notice the the apps that are pre installed are only the pre validator and some other app that was installed in this particular lab. Now.39:40What we need to do, we actually need to go to the data center app center of cisco or DC app center. Now, one of the things I want to show you before I continue with the video recording is that if you go to the DC app center.cisco.com.39:59You are gonna see a statement right as right off the back that says, hey, we are not longer supporting the apps starting with release six or one two, right? This is for your ACI environment. If you happen to be running this version, don't worry about it. You don't have to go through these steps.40:17Now, let me go back to the video. If I go, if I continue here, the idea here is to be able to download the app, right? So you can search the app by the name, the name is Nexus inside cloud Connector or you can get, see the apps based on the platform. In this case, we select the apic. And most likely you'll see the app.40:35As soon as you basically filter by the platform the next step is like downloading any app like in your phone, you can just download the app. Once the app is downloaded, it's gonna ask you to sign the license agreement again, go through that and download the app. Once.40:55To, download the app, right? The next step would be to upload the app to the ACI fabric. Now the steps are very simple to be able to do that. So in this case when we are in the apps menu, you notice on the top right, there is two little boxes there, there's a box that has a arrow down to download.41:14If you click on that little box, it's gonna take you to the download page, so you don't have to memorize that download page. But in this case we already have the image, so we're just gonna upload the image that we just downloaded.41:34And at this point, we just wanna, go through the, the process of uploading it. You wanna look for the image once you have it download, the installation process is very fast. One of the things that you'll see is that it'll take probably the steps from validating.41:46To install it. The moment it becomes where the, you can see the radio button says open, that's when you're ready to use. So just give it a minute for that process to install and as soon as this is done, you'll see the app already being installed. So now this is all I wanted to show you as part of that recording. Now I'm gonna move into my actual.42:06Lab, let me let me get my app, my lab here. Now this particular fabric, if I show you really quick, it's running version 611615E So you'll see the app app is missing. So again, we don't need that. Now, how do we get the.42:27The claiming process done for this particular apic. The 1st thing that we wanna do, we wanna go to system on the top left and then system settings.42:47Right? Under the system settings depending on the version that you have, it may have inter site connectivity, it may have Nexus connector inter site connectivity. There's gonna be something along inter site. So look for anything that says inter site connectivity in this case mine is based on the version showed.42:57Inter site connectivity, but yours maybe different depending on the version you have. Now.43:171st thing that you wanna notice here is that it's giving you a quick diagram of the connectivity or the state of this claiming of this particular device connector. So the 1st half basically is telling me that my device connector can connect to cisco.com or sbc.43:22Interstate.com. Why? The dots are green, right? If the dots were red, that means that your device connector or your Apic didn't or doesn't have connectivity to the inter site portal or as we see that inter site.com. If that happens to be the case.43:42For your environment, we need to solve that. The claiming is not gonna work if that's the case, right? So as Carlos mentioned, the requirements are to make sure that we can get into connected to sBC.inter site.com. Make sure 4443 is open to have that access. Now let's just assume that you.44:01Don't have, these dots are red. What are the things that you can do? So one of the things that we can do, we can SSH into our.44:21ACI, APIC and make sure I got the right password and so I'm logged in. As Carlos mentioned, there are a few things that we can do, right?44:301st of all, I want to see if I can actually ping, as we see.com. If I get a response, that's a good sign, right? If you don't have a response, then that means there's the connectivity related issue. Maybe either it's a firewall block or.44:46Or we just don't have access. Again, we just have to verify the connectivity. Now in your in my case you can see that it was able to resolve, the.45:07The particular DNS to an IP address. But if you started with looking into the DNS configuration, we can do a NS lookup. We see the inter site.com and see if we actually get our IPs resolved.45:16That would let us know that our DNS is working. Now, from day one when you deploy your ACI environment, one of the requirements or one of the things that you want to get done is to configure DNS and NTP, right? So I would assume that DNS is already configured, but assuming that something is wrong, maybe there was a typo you can validate it this way.45:35Now finally, let's say that you can resolve the IP, the DNS to an IP address.45:55How do we check whether or not the port, it's open? 04:43 is open. You can do a curl command from the apic. You can do HTTPS, bC.inter site.com and then we want to specify 4433.46:03Hi, there's a typo. Yeah, make sure you don't have any typos yeah HTTPS. Yep, that was my bad. And if it's alive.46:22I couldn't resolve, let me see. Oh, there's only typo, see? There's site.com. Yeah, this is part of the demo by the way. All right, so see it's alive, right? Again, verify you don't have any typos, they might be, you may see this and think that ok there's something that's blocked, just double check.46:38So with this we validate that we do have.46:59For connectivity to inter site and 4443 is open. Now let's move on into the claiming process. Now, assuming that there was something wrong with it, and we identify what the issue might be, right? Maybe it's a DNS setting. Maybe it's something in the network. Let's assume that we resolve the issue.47:03Issue. Now, if we go to the settings under this page.47:22We can actually get the DNS and resolved, there's a menu that will take you directly there. So if you see where it says set up inter site connectivity, one of the cool things here is that you get a direct.47:28Path to do that configuration. So if DNS was missing or incorrect, we can just go to DNS, edit the DNS entry, make sure it's correct, assuming there was a DNS related issue. If we need a proxy, right? In my case, I don't have a, a proxy need, you can actually set up the proxy. We do have.47:45One but in this lab we don't actually need our Cisco so we got reconnected with Cisco.48:05So we don't need that, but in case you need it, this is how you can actually do it assuming that was one part that was missing. So you do have the option to do it this way. You also have the option if you go to system and then if you go to quick start.48:12You go system, quick start, and then you select the ACI fabric setup. It'll take you to the same page. So there are multiple ways. You can also go directly to VDNS look policy or where DDNS.48:28Policies are exist on the ACI menu. We won't do that today, but these are different options you can get there. Now let's go back to the process of claiming this device. So we're gonna go back to inter site connectivity. Let's go back to the settings once again just to explain this a little bit more.48:43By default, the device connector is gonna be enabled. If you decide that you don't want it anymore, you don't want device connector to try to communicate with sBC.interstyle.com, you can disable this. The access if you are having any, let's say that you wanna be able to.49:03You you don't want TAC to upload or download tech support files from your environment, but you just wanna have telemetry views or have the ability to take advantage of the proactive cases that Carlos was talking about, you can leave it as read only, but if you like to take advantage of the feature where TAC can.49:23Download the tech support that they need when it comes to the troubleshooting.49:43You can select the allow control. And then the last one, the auto update this basically is gonna auto update the device connector. So as long as it has connectivity to the inter site network, it will be able to update the device connector. Now, if you don't have this option, the only other way this.49:48Is gonna be updated is when you do an ACI upgrade, right? As the the device connectors a piece of software that is basically part of the installation of your ACI software. I recommend you have it updating just because that way you can get the latest version assuming there are any problems.50:07Yeah.50:27Then there's some certificate management if needed and any connectivity test that you can validate here as well. So let's go ahead and go back and move into the claiming. Now to claim the devices, and this is gonna be the same for every device, you only need a.50:28Device ID and then you need a clean code.50:48Right, the device ID is gonna be composed of all the serial numbers of your apex. If you're doing a Nexus device, it's gonna be the serial number of your Nexus device if you're doing the claiming of nexus dashboard is gonna include the serial numbers of those nodes. So we want to make sure that we copy this because we're gonna use these two values, so I'm going to copy.50:51I go back to my inter site account.51:11And to be able to claim this device, I want to go to the system tab. So if I go to system and then select targets, you see I have NO targets being claimed. On the top right, you can see the tab that says claim a new target. So I wanna select claim my new target. Now there are multiple devices you can claim on inter side.51:13As I mentioned there this particular platform it or cloud.51:33Management solution for UCS environment, but it can be can manage from other devices as well. In our case, we're only dealing with the next two devices, so you have two options you can search for your device or you can go to the network tab and see which device is applicable to you. In our case we're.51:38I'm gonna select the Cisco apic. I'm gonna go ahead and start and now remember those values, device ID and claim code.51:58I'm gonna go ahead and paste the, the device ID. This is what that I grabbed from the apic. I'm gonna go back to my Apic once again, and I'm gonna now grab the claim code. I'm gonna click here, I'm gonna copy it. And then I'm gonna go to.52:05And now use this and then let me make this bigger so you can see it. We're gonna, on the bottom right, there's a clean button that you wanna select.52:24If everything is as good and the connectivity is there, you're gonna see your status as healthy and connected. If you click on the device you get some information you get a little bit of information here.52:38About the devices, device connector and what kind of device it is. Now if we go back to the APIC, right? If I refresh, you'll see that shows my system now is clean. Now what's interesting is this, is that you can see the account name. Remember that name that I.52:54Get to my account, you'll see it there. Now, as you can see, if you highlight this little I icon, you can see who was the person who claimed it. So let's say that you were not that person and you want to have access to the inter site account, just click the little I button, get their email and reach out to that person, say, hey, can you add me to this account?53:14So this is a way to do it. So this is how you can actually onboard the, your ACI fabric into inter site. Now we're gonna move into next dashboard. Now we're gonna go a little bit faster cause basically is the same sets or same basically tests that you can run in the.53:34Pretty much the same things that you wanna check when you onboard the nexus dashboard. So I'm gonna go ahead and jump into the nexus dashboard. Actually I'm gonna go here so it's this is what what you normally get when you log in to the to the Nexus dashboard.53:54Again, the 1st thing that we wanna do here, we wanna make sure that your nexus dashboard has connectivity to SDC.inter site.com, right? 4443 is open, same as with the APEC, nothing changes. Now, if we happen to need any changes to our DNS, if it happens to have any changes.54:10To basically, the proxy we can we need to do those changes. Now.54:29If we go to admin, and then we select inter site, right? You'll get the same page as before. As I mentioned, if these dots are red, then you need to do your troubleshooting, make sure that you can actually connect your sBC.inter site.com.54:36If it's reen, you don't have to worry about that. We know we can connect. Now, one of the things, one of the comments I wanna make here.54:56Is that if you are doing, you wanna do some testing on the Nexus dashboard, when you log into the Nexus dashboard via the CLI, you wanna make sure that you use the rescue user account. If you have and you try to log in with your account.55:02It's not gonna work. If you try other local user, if you try admin as the user, it's not gonna work. You want to make sure that you use rescue user rescue-user and the password is gonna be the admin password, ok?55:19If you have the admin password and you log in, you'll be able to do the the testing to validate that you can actually connect. But again, just a reminder don't use admin as user, don't use your user is not gonna work.55:35Make sure that you log in with the rescue user. And then you can do the same scenarios we tested before. We can ping SVC inter site.com and we get a response and then you can do the NS NS lookup and check for open port connectivity. Okay, now.55:51I'm not gonna show you that since you already walked through that and we do have green connectivity here. Now, if you need to make any changes to your DNS or proxy, we're gonna go to admin.56:11Again, we're gonna select system settings under system settings, you're gonna be able to basically update those values. Again, when you deploy the Nexus dashboard for the 1st time, DNS NTP are required fields, so you must, you should already have those.56:21Now, assuming that DNS broke or maybe we replace the DNS and you need to do an update, we go to system settings, we look for the DNS menu, we select edit, and we make our modifications as needed. Same goes for the NTP or even the proxy.56:41Right, if you need a proxy, you can do the same changes here to make sure that you have any connectivity. Also, if there are specific routes, one of the things that it's different if you have if you, if the connectivity to inter site should be taken from a different path, then you can add routes to the managed.57:01In order getting in this case the management, that's what we used to connect to inter site, there must be the management interfaces that we connect. Now let's go ahead and claim this device. So we're gonna go to admin.57:21We're gonna go ahead and select inter site. We're gonna do the same thing as we did before. Remember, these are the serial numbers of my nexus dashboard notes. So I'm gonna go ahead and click copy and then I'm gonna go to my inter site now notice that I click this device, I can just go back to targets here.57:33A top right, blame a new device. I can say Nexus dashboard. Select Nexus dashboard, start, I'm gonna paste my device ID.57:54I'm gonna now grab the claim ID. This is a unique value. This is something that it changes every time you unclaim and claim the device. I'm gonna go ahead and copy. Oops. And gonna go ahead and paste it and select one.58:10Now we have two devices in my account, right? That I claim. If I go back to my nexus dashboard and I do a refresh, same as before, giving me information about the account and if I want to know who did it, it was me.58:32I just had just move your mouse by the little eye icon and then you'll see who and when was this done. Perfect. Now, for the last device we're gonna actually do a Nexus device. So let's go ahead and bring that device here. So let me.58:47So like I have an IPN device, the next device and we're gonna do let me log in here now. You wanna, you can run the show version command.59:06Make sure that you are running the supported release. Carlos mentioned that our initial release was on ten.23. We are on ten.45, so we are supported. Now.59:25To check the, the status of that claim connectivity, we wanna do show system device connector and then claim info. Now notice that it's gonna tell me similar values that we saw before.59:39Right is gonna tell me the device ID which happens to be the serial number and then the security token as well and it's gonna give me the state that is not connected. Now, this doesn't tell me whether or not we have connectivity to sDC.com, so we want to verify that that is the case.59:55Before I show you what the, the testing, some of the things that you can validate here, right? So e.g., if I do show running VRF management, I want to validate a couple of things, right? So one of the things I want to do, I wanna make sure that my DNS.01:00:13It's configured. We're gonna use the management interface or the management network to communicate to inter site.com, so I wanna make sure my DNS is configured. If I do show run NTP, right?01:00:33I want to make sure my NTP is also validated and it's also source or preferred by your management network if you have to change anything for NTP or DNS. And if I do show run inter site oh.01:00:49Let's do show run inter site as soon as the feature it's enabled, one of the things that you'll see is that these are some of the commands that were shared by Carlos as part of the process. You want to make sure your inter site it's basic.01:01:07These mapped to the VRF management.01:01:26In this case, if this, if you don't see any of this is possible that or if when you run show in our site it's not or the show claiming device doesn't see anything, most likely your inter site feature is not enabled, so we can do show.01:01:31We can so show feature and let's just grab inter site. If this not enabled, we would want to enable that interest the inter site feature you enable it as any other feature with your Nexus device.01:01:48And then again, if I wanna verify that I do have connectivity I can just ping, we see that inter site.com and make sure that I source from the correct VRF.01:02:08If not, then I won't, this is not gonna work. Again, if it's able to resolve an IP address, that means we have the connectivity, ok? Again similar tests, similar things that you can do run into any problem. This is how you can actually check here. Now.01:02:25When we claim the device actually let me go back to my device, let me grab the info we need to be able to claim this Nexus device. I'll get the the serial number again serial number is my device ID.01:02:40We go to inter site, go to targets, claim a new target, if I type nexus, I have a Nexus switch, so let's go ahead and click this Nexus switch. I'll go ahead and click start. Now one of the things that is different between the next to the APEC and the Nexus dashboard, it's this little option.01:02:58This is claim target with Cisco assist. In the beginning of the demo I mentioned that there is an option where you can actually claim 3rd party devices before next to switches were supported or before they had a device connector.01:03:17There was a way to claim these devices to inter site, but it did require a, basically a middle application or what we call an inter site assist VM. This VM gives you the ability.01:03:36To basically do a couple things with you can upload the the files directly from the app to the tag case. If you have it claim as well, you get a little bit more visibility into those devices and it also allows you to do a little more of orchestration, right?01:03:53To do a little bit of configuration via the, the inter site it's only supported for the I believe the NDS and the Nexus devices.01:04:13Right? I'll show you a quick piece of information on on different inter site account to see what it looks like. Again, for to take advantage of the telemetry features, you just have to claim it because the device connected on the release that you should be running or that is.01:04:24Supported. Now that you should be running but the device, the, the version where the device connector is supported.01:04:44You don't have to depend on the inter site assist. Now, if you don't have it or if you wanna do a little bit of orchestration, you could install the inter site assist VM, Note that for the orchestration pieces with inter site, you do require a license.01:04:52Right, if you want to do orchestration on this next to device three inter site, you have to have the inter site and also the correct licensing for that, just keep that in mind. In our case, we're not gonna do that. We're just gonna do a normal claim. So I'm just gonna keep the clean target.01:05:12Copy my device ID and then I'm gonna go to the claim code or the security token, like this. I'm awaiting claim.01:05:28Now, my have an apic, I have a next device and a nexus dashboard claim. If I go back here and I run the same show system device connector claim info command, you will see that my device is now clean. It'll tell you the account.01:05:46The inter site account, who claim it, the date and again the status of it. So this is basically all you need to claim your devices to take advantage of that. Now, let me show you something here. So if I go to my account here.01:06:05Okay, let me go ahead and sign out, have multiple. Again, something else that I want to mention is that you don't have to be part of a single account. You can be part of multiple inter site account. You may have multiple.01:06:22Nexus deployments, maybe different data centers and they don't have to be part of the same nexus, the same inter site account. If you, if that happens to be the case, you can have multiple accounts. As you can see, I'm part of multiple accounts.01:06:37Right, so different devices maybe maybe different data centers when it comes to again the the Nexus dashboard, the ACI or again, the Nexus devices without the inter site assist, you can move these devices between accounts and not necessarily have any impact.01:06:53When you unclaim.01:07:14Devices. But one thing I wanted to show you is this, if I go to the, I think it's this lab here, maybe I'll try the lab, I think it's this guy. So if I go to networking, in this particular lab, this device was claimed using the.01:07:15The device, the inter site assist, and one of the things that you'll see is that you get some information about this device, more information. I'll show you what it looks like with just the normal claim, you get port information, you get CPU information. If you're interested on that, you would again need to deploy that additional VM to be.01:07:34To do this claiming. And you can do e.g. there's VLAN information, right? If you want to get some status from the inter site, you can do that from here.01:07:54Again as you will need that a particular inter site. Now, if I go back to my account, the account we just created, and I select.01:08:06My account and I dropdown the operate notice that I don't have any other menus. I only have the targets. If I check this next device, I get this some metadata information about that's about it.01:08:22That's all that you actually, get to see when it comes to the claiming without the inter site assist. Now, one last thing before I pass it over to Carlos.01:08:37If you go back to targets and let's say that maybe this account, someone else is you're moving or want to move this to a different account, you can unclaim the devices from either your APEC or from the actual inter site. I highly recommend that you remove it from your inter site.01:08:52Account. If you go to the three little dots, you can select unclaim and it's gonna unclaim that. Additionally, you can actually unclaim it directly from the device, right? So you can do this anytime. Either way is gonna give you the same outcome.01:09:15The the difference is that when I, when you do it from here and you let's say you do it directly from the next dashboard and you go to your inter site account, you will still see that device and it will tell you that it's disconnected, right? So again, if you are managing this account.01:09:31The the best way to unclaim would be directly from the inter site account. With that, I'm gonna I'm completely this part of the demo, so I'll pass it back to you Carlos. Okay, thank you Manny.01:09:49Just a really quick Carlos I'm I am enabling 2nd slider question. What devices would you like to claim in inter site? Please help us to answer that question and.01:10:13The previous question, have you created an inter site account yet? It seems most of our attendees have already created one, so just wanted to give the results. Thank you Carlos. Back to you.01:10:28Thank you Siden. So data privacy, very important topic especially when, you know, we are talking about cloud connectivity, cloud connected technologies. So let's talk about it related to inter site.01:10:42So what data are we collecting and what's used, what is it used for? So the table here provides a summary of what data is uploaded to inter site and the reasons for the collection.01:11:02So, 1st, this is all tied to your Cisco.com user ID because it's what you use to create an inter site account so we use it to identify your account and make sure that critical resources such as tech support data are, you know, upload.01:11:17Ordered to the correct location so our tech engineers can easily access them.01:11:37For a system from a system perspective, inter site collects controller and device information along along with operational metrics to help identify potential issues early on.01:11:45In terms of features, we collect high level metrics such as, you know, the number of fabrics, number of tenants, number of EPGs, features enabled, you know, we only collect the inventory count to understand the overall scale of your.01:12:04Configuration but the key thing is, that we are not gonna be collecting any identifiable information about your environment. So that's to facilitate your.01:12:23Adoption and make sure you are getting, you know, the most value of those solutions. Finally, we also track license entitlement to assist customers, you know, tracking and.01:12:40Maintaining license entitlement and renewals, and more about data privacy, as we saw all communications through inter site cloud is only encrypted over HTTPS.01:12:57Like I said, the data collected is limited to product usage, so we are not collecting personally identifiable information and we do not collect any network traffic.01:13:19If you'd like to deep deeper into how Cisco handles data privacy, you can visit the Cisco Trust Center. There are some hyperlinks, hyperlinks in this slide. We're gonna share those.01:13:36Links, in a minute and everything within inter site is developed, integrated and tested by Cisco using the, you know, Cisco security development life cycle guidelines.01:13:52Now if there is any additional privacy concerns, a really great resource is the trust portal. This is where you can go to this to see data privacy documentation and compliance information on a per product basis and cloud services including, you know, Cisco inter site.01:14:11So a very useful resource and we're gonna get to our second and final demo of the day. So many I'm gonna hand it over to you. Awesome. Thank you Carlos. This is gonna be a very short demo as Carlos.01:14:31Which we're gonna show you how you can actually upload the tech support files to the tech case or to inter site and just give you some recommendations. Now, not that we are gonna be doing this through the Nexus dashboard. As I mentioned, the ACI fabric, if you have an ACI fabric that is running 612, you will now.01:14:51Have these option to upload them yourself, but can still download the files. But let me go ahead and share my desktop.01:15:11Alright, so the Nexus dashboard has this ability to be to download tech support files for your ACI fabrics for your Nexus standalone if you're doing a VXLAN fabric, any devices that can be onboarded or the devices that can be onboarded Nexus dashboard.01:15:17So we're gonna use this as part of this demo. Now, how do we go through that collection? Again, we're not gonna wait for that log collection to complete. Just want to show you some pieces of information and things that you wanna know.01:15:37Now, to be able to get the, go to the log collection, you wanna go to analyze or I'm gonna select analyze. Oops. Oh, I moved from here. Okay, sorry. All right, so miss.01:15:52Go to analyze analysis copy and then we're gonna select the log collector, ok? Now, the next dashboard is a time based correlation engine. So if you want to look at previous collections, you can change the time of the when this was collected.01:16:10For the 1st part of this demo, just want to show you what would be kind of like the steps. Now if you say select create log collection.01:16:31You're gonna have two options to upload the tech support files to the tag portal. The 1st one is let's say that you are collecting this for the 1st time. You can say tag logs or give it any name could be for other leafs.01:16:39You want to select the specific site, right? This is not different than anything that we've seen before. And you're gonna have the option here. You see this box that says auto upload load files. This option.01:16:55Will only become available when you have your inter site claiming already done. If you have not claimed your indexes dashboard into inter site, this option is gonna be grayed out. Keep that in mind. You'll see it, but you won't be able to select it. Now, the process would be to select this box.01:17:11Go to next and then basically select with the devices that you wanna basically collect logs from. My case let's say they just wanted to collect this link and go to the process and basically go ahead and submit it. And I can, we can submit it now. Now we're not gonna wait for that process to complete.01:17:31And it's once it's complete, it'll automatically upload the text support files. Now the other option is let's say that you have, and I created this, I think 24 h ago.01:17:51Let's say that you have a another manual collection. I gave it manual collection here. If you go to select the file, let's say that you already collected this file, but you didn't select the auto upload or maybe you didn't have the inter site claim already done. I can select claim here. I'm sorry the the particul.01:18:02The file, the name that I gave to this collection, you select which device.01:18:22You want to upload and then you select the, the upload all files option, right? If you do the upload files, this would automatically start the upload process, ok? So that's option number two. Now, one, something else I wanna show you here is what happens or what.01:18:28But it looks like if someone from tech happens to do that collection and let's do maybe last week.01:18:48I want to show you what would be the difference if someone is going through the maybe decides that, hey, I need logs from your environment. How will you know that they are doing their collection? Something that you know, is by looking at the name, it's gonna call it's gonna be named TAC assist for every.01:18:55Collection that is done by a tech engineer.01:19:15And you're also gonna see this fast track. If this fast track was set as the type, you know that this collection was done by tag or the tag portal. So just keep that in mind. Now, once you get these files uploaded in your in your actual case, you will see that either the name of the person.01:19:18Who the who picked or decided to do the collection?01:19:38So you can just go to your, case number, go to the history, go to the attachments, and it's gonna tell you the that name of that person or if it was done by inter site. Now, one of the things that I recommend if you're gonna do a manual collection and then you're gonna do uploading, let's say that you have more than one.01:19:41One set of logs that you wanna share.01:20:01You need to tell tech, hey, I'm my devices are connected to inter site and I uploaded tech support files and you can give them the serial numbers. The reason for that is because there has to be an association to a case number. And as you can see, there's not an option here to associate my upload to a case.01:20:05Number it only uploaded to the tech portal. Now, in order for the tech engineer to attach it to your case, there you don't have to upload it to the case. Again it's already in the tech portal, but they are gonna need the serial number and you have to tell them.01:20:25That you already uploaded the files so they don't have to look somewhere else. All right? With that in mind, let's go ahead and pass it back to my colleague Carlos. I hope these demos were useful and I believe we're in.01:20:42Almost done with this presentation. Carlos, back to you. Thank you Manny. Great, great presentations.
