Started shortly.00:00All right, it is 1pM. Eastern. Welcome everybody. Welcome to this EIS Expert insight series on moving from Prime infrastructure to Catalyst Center. My name is Mayla side and I'm joined today by my co my co worker Irvin Mandiola. We're both csss.00:28In the NX enterprise space, and we specialize on enterprise networking, catalyst center, and all that surrounds up.00:48We are joined today by our panelists, Peter and Adam, who will be taking your questions. This webinar is goal of the insight, is part of the Catalyst Center Expert insights series, and it.00:59The goal of this series is actually to make this.01:19These webinars and tidbits of information that will allow you to build from the previous sessions information and continue to help you to get the most of Catalyst Center. Today and for the rest of the quarter, we're focusing on giving you a solid foundation of Catalyst Center knowledge.01:25Over the next several weeks, we'll be covering our best business value of Catalyst Center, the installation options, the best practices with Catalyst Center, and more advanced sessions on automation, ICE integration, and further advanced use cases with Catalyst Center.01:44While we're going through our presentation, and demos, you may have questions that come up. Please note that the Q and A section is found in your Webex client by, by going into the three small dots at the bottom right hand corner of your screen.02:04You can just ask a question in the Q and A section and one of our panelists Adam and Peter will be happy to answer. If ever they don't have the answer right away, they may ask you for your information in order to be able to come back to you with the.02:24Appropriate answer at a later time.02:44There will also be a Slido questionnaire shortly after the Webex closes. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to provide us with feedback so that you can we can continue to make these sessions relevant to you and better meet your needs.02:47All right, so today's agenda. 1st, we'll start by comparing prime infrastructure and Catalyst Center just to make sure that we're on the same page on how they stack up. Then we'll dive into the migration strategy so you're con you're confident on the roadmap ahead. From there, we'll take a look at how your environment is ready.03:12With the PDAC tool, and then once you have prepped, I think it's Erwin yes Erwin will walk you through a live demo of the actual migration process using the PDMT tool or prime data migration tool. We'll also cover the coexistence scenarios for those.03:33Times where you might still have a few clients, the client devices and little things that are still in prime for just a little bit longer and to wrap things up, we'll go over some best practices to make sure that everything stays smooth, and we'll hit the remaining.03:53Questions should you have? Any, any and we'll share some final thoughts.04:13All right? So let's jump right in. Today, we're going to walk you through the migration process together, so we'll walk through the pro migration process together and try to answer any questions that you may have and provide some practical strategies to ensure that the transition.04:20Is smooth and issue free. To make sure we're set up for success, we'll be covering addressing your core migration section as questions and then share some proven approaches for an effective transition and some best practices.04:40As you know, prime is end of life and is being replaced by Catalos Center. We're now past the end of software maintenance and now the significant milestones coming is end of service and last day of support. So 2027.04:55And 2028 in September, those are significant milestones, so we better get ready for them, right? I know this is a common point of confusion, so I just want to clear the air for a minute. So prime infrastructure or some call it pie, was our legacy platform and it was made to manage.05:10Enterprise network. When we look to modernize the management experience, we introduce DNA center. However, to brand everything under the catalyst umbrella, we've since rebranded that DNA Center to catalyst center. So don't, don't frag, don't worry if you hear someone say DNA Center.05:30Or catalyst center or cat C They're all referring to the same exact platform. It's just the new name for the same powerful tool.05:50All right. So in prime, we relied heavily on CLI templates and config groups that made provisioning a little bit more manual. Catalyst Center replaces that with site based profiles. Essentially, you'll set your configurations once at the site level.06:01Makes the whole day zero onboarding process much cleaner and less prone to error.06:21We've also streamlined the day to day operations with unified upgrades using swim. So the old way, the wired and wireless workflows were separated and cumbersome. Now Catalyst Center gives you one consistent workflow and it allows you to do pre and.06:26Post checks that can even tie into your existing manage existing change management management systems.06:46And it makes the process super smooth. And, in addition to that, you know, we've automated compliance, so we've moved away from the manual script and diffs and all of that. So Catalos Center handles compliance checks and does integrity assessments automa automatic.06:53And of course, even though prime was giving you the tool, you had to put some elbow grease to be the expert in everything. Now Catalyst Center is more of your sidekick. It uses machine reasoning to give you tangible KPIs and trends, help you to catch and fix issues.07:13Before they occur, and before they become real problems. In addition to that, Catalos Center is the engine beth behind SD access. It serves as your primary controller for policy and segmentation. It makes the transition to software defined networking much more intuitive and it integrates.07:32With ice.07:52Okay, so deployment options for catalyst center. Well, you're well aware that we have the UCS chassis for on premise options. Right now the last generation is DM three, and this is the latest Cisco gem.07:56The, appliance and yeah, there are physical boxes. We also offer cloud deployments on AWS and Azure where Azure is I think still in field trial, but I don't think they still take customers, so you need to inquire to do your Cisco rep for that.08:15These cloud options provide the same platform and use cases as on prem, but you don't manage the infrastructure since it's in the cloud. Last but not least, there's also a virtual appliance option that runs on VMware ESXi. So that could be in your VMware farm on prem.08:36That offers similar scale, similar scale to the cloud deployment, but lets you keep the infrastructure in your data center with virtualization. It is one of the most common platforms actually though the requirements for the VM arm sizable.08:54So think of Catalos Center as a natural evolution from prime. It's designed for mothern intent networking, which is really about letting you focus on what you want, your network to do instead of doing the manual work to get there, right? So when you make the move to Catalos Center.09:15Sure you get proactive assurance catching issues before they impact the user, you get enhanced automation, cloud ready architectures and operational agility. So, of course, you know, it's like getting an extra sidekick on your team.09:35And I want to enlight, highlight that it's not just about managing the network. We've baked some serious AI in Catalos Center in the most recent, in the most recent versions and machine learning. Well, I've called I I've talked about it.09:51The AI agent and the latest version at 23711 is quite awesome. It does fantastics fantastic things and I highly recommend that you check it out. Check out our demos and see for yourself if the latest gold version.10:10It's your needs. At the end of the day, it's a much more powerful, intelligent solution for your network operations. So it could save your team some some time to go with catalyst center. It's not just a question of transitioning, right?10:30So, FYI, if you're on the older DN two appliances, you might want to check the day of last support because I think they are end of sale, and then plan ahead with strategies to migrate it, to migrate to gen three and maybe even Gen four which are.10:47Coming I hear.11:06So let's actually talk about the migration itself. Strategy, right? Let's strategize a little bit. I'll be moving slowly to the tools that need to have to, that you need to have to actually assess the situation before you get started, and then we'll see what we have to work with, right?11:10Alright, so from the time that someone is ready to say, ok, I'm not sure about the process, I need to go through it. Well, 1st, one of the reasons why you're here, right, is that you he needs to understand what Kelly's Center is.11:32So you want to learn as much as possible about Catalos Center and its possibilities and the capabilities, and you want to check the extent of your prime infrastructure just to make sure that the feature parity is is ok. Right now feature parity we've reached a level.11:49That's very appreciable. So, just in case that you, you get the, the, the, you get the gist on what's what and where is everything that you use to use in prime infrastructure. Now, then you want to move into.12:09Assessing how you were using Prime and how you're going to do things in in Catalyst Center, so you're going to consider the Pdart tool, right? That, that will automatically assess your deployment.12:28It will run on your prime appliance and then automatically check if if you're using specific use cases, net specific network devices, the scale of your network as well, and the compatib compatibility of some of your devices.12:45It is possible to actually transition to call it center without running the Pdart tool. You can check the items manually, but, the tool is quite nice. You want to consider it. All right.13:07So, preparing for the the data migration, you'll check the PDAC report if you decided to run with it and fix the little things that it recommended. It might recommend that you upgrade prime. It might recommend that you optimize some items in your hierarchy.13:20Just to make sure that everything is well and ordered and then it may.13:40And it make makes some additional suggestions, right? So, so that's the preparation for the data migration. Now, when you start that migration, you're going to.13:47You're going to run into a couple of options while performing it. So Irvin is going to go over all the details of that, but you don't have to migrate everything all at once, right? You can take baby steps into it. So Irvin will will demonstrate later on.14:04But once you've completed the migration of all your data, the step that is left is to make sure that this catalyst center is doing exactly what, what, what you want it to do and you want to check that your network elements are well created, that the site maps, the templates, the.14:25Credentials have migrated well and that everything is working smoothly.14:45And then, well, you tell me May, but what's left? Well, adopt catalyst centers start working with the tool, go through the network hierarchy, go through the inventory and peruse the amazing data that invisibility that you get with assurance.14:50All right. Before you begin thinking about the actual migration, I would like you to take those items into consideration, so timeline for migration, the size of your network, how many APs, wlcs, switches, how many sites do you want to move?15:08What is the order in which you're ready to move? Are you moving just the infrastructure? Are you going to be running Catalyst Center only for your wired, only for your wireless? What version of of prime and catalyst center are currently running in the environment? What catalyst version center Catalyst Center.15:27Version are you going to go to? And check that the running versions on the devices themselves are compatible. We have a really cool, Cisco Catalos Center compatibility matrix that will tell you according to the different use cases, what code version you need for.15:47For different platforms, so that will help you tremendously in per planning the.16:08The strategy, alright? Of course, if you can, I would suggest that you do, you build your own lab, that will allow you to build some expertise in managing data with with Catalyst Center.16:13And then you can maybe do start by a limited pilot, so maybe use all the tools that we've described and migrate only a single site. And then of course if you're taking your 1st steps with catalyst center, I would suggest that you adoption assurance 1st.16:29And then you can move on to more complex use cases. So assurance is all the visibility part of catalyst center. And trust me, it's really awesome. It gets it keeps you up to date with issues, events, the network devices, how they're doing, how the clients are doing. It's.16:47That's awesome. And then, you know, you can roll out incrementally and gradually move all your devices to catalyst center. So there are several items that can now be migrated. I spoke about the.17:07The parity, the parity is pretty much there, with maps, with topology, with devices, with the configuration, the CLI templates, eyes and CMX, and all of that so everything is pretty much on par. There might be.17:24We have fewer ports that not, that are not there, but generally there are alternatives.17:44So, ok, let's get to business steps. Systems pre check to be more precise. We're going to verify the compatibility matrix between Prime and catalyst center just to make sure that.17:53We're running the right version of prime, the right version of Catalos Center. There's the minimal version by prime to migrate as three seven but we're over at 03:10 from we've been there for a little while now. And then that can the three seven and above can allow you to.18:10To use the data migration tool, the one that we called PDMT, that's pretty awesome, so, and it allows you some granularity so you want to consider that.18:30You also want to make sure that your prime can actually reach your Catalos Center when you're doing the upgrade because they will need to talk to one another. Then you want a prime infrastructure to have access as root or super user and Catalos Center also needs.18:41To have super admin credentials.19:01All right? So preparing the the my for the migration with the pdart. So creating that report, right? So you can do the these prechecks manually, but, this automation, the Pdart tool, that's where.19:03That's where you're going to get the meat and potatoes of where you stand, right? You're going, it's going to check, and evaluate your current hardware, your software, and use cases, and it will give you a detailed report on, on all these topics with specific recommendations and.19:24And it's completely non invasive, so it doesn't touch your configuration. It's just checking stuff. It's not going to change your devices either. It gives you the data you need to plan.19:43So we'll take a look at the sample report in a, in a in a few minutes. The PDM two T tool is prime to DNA migration tools, sorry, or prime to call center migration tool. It's the actual.19:55Engine for the move, right? So you launch this directly from your prime infrastru interface and it lets you decide exactly what you want to migrate or you know all this, do you want to migrate your inventory, your server data, your site hierarchy, your maps?20:10It's designed to be flexible so you can actually clean up and restructure your network hierarchy while you're moving things to center and and it allows you to complete that smoothly. So essentially Peter is there to tell you if you're ready to move and PDMD does.20:28The heavy lift. All right. So the Pdart is actually downloaded from software.cisco.com. So as you can see from the screen, it's this one was taken a while back, so it's for prime infrastructure three nine.20:48And, that's where you can download it. Now, there are two ways to actually install the tool. And they're important to understand. So if you use, if you choose to download the, the UVF file and install it through the GUI.21:09What you want to do is download it, of course, from Cisco software.cisco.com, and then you're going to upload the file to your prime infrastructure via the software update page in the GUI, and then it's going to run its installation.21:29But if you choose to go that route, what you have to know is that Primen will need to reload after you actually install. And then once you've rebooted.21:45You can navigate to the Pdart tool in the UI and run the pdart report. So this method, by the way, it does not require the root credentials. So if you don't have the root credentials, that's the way to go.22:00Now, if you want to go the CLI route, you will need the executable that can be downloaded in Cisco devnet in our GitHub. It's there in the repository, and then you're going to take that executable that you downloaded from GitHub and you're going to copy it to your.22:16Prime infrastructure.22:36Any direct and directory will do, you will need to change the file permissions so so that the file is actually executable and then you're going to run the tool from the CLI as a root user. However, the big, the big plus for that method that seems a little bit more complicated, but really it's not.22:37It does not require a reboot from of your prime, right? So if you're not ready to reboot and you have your root credentials, that could be a way to go. It will also generate a PDF report.22:57And all the other output in this directory and you're going to get, by the way, in the GitHub arread me and instructions and guide that will help you through the process, ok? So remember UI method.23:12Cisco.com through the GUI needs the reboot. CLI method, GitHub, NO reboot needs root access, and then you've got the link on the screen, right? In GitHub.23:31So this is an example of how you will, be able to actually install it on prime, right? So, the bubble that's that has a one is administration. So you go to Administration license software update, software update, you get the bundle, and then you install it.23:47I have I've not taken a snapshot from ACL shell, but it's fairly simple. You get the idea. Alright, if you migrate a location, what am I saying? Best practices before device migration.24:07You have to check that the devices are on prime and they are marked as synchronized and completed. Okay, this is really important. The location places are not in catalyst catalyst center in the network hierarchy. You have to check also that the device.24:26Is to be migrated are supported in Catalyst Center and that the device controllability is enabled on Catalyst Center and then.24:46Ideally you run the Pdart tool. If ever the devices are not fully supported in Catalos Center, they maybe able to be managed in a lesser fashion. So you might be able to pull the SNMP or specific use cases, so you would need to check the compatibility matrix.24:55In order to be able to see exactly what they can do.25:15All right. So this is a sample of the Pdart report, which Irvin is going to, to present a little bit later on. So I just want to draw your attention here to key areas of this report. So you've got your device part.25:19That will show you the managed devices, how many you have, how many are supported, what is unsupported, and then it gets you to understand which devices are compatible with Catalyst Center and which are not. Then you've got the use cases, so what is currently supported, which is not, what's.25:39Plan on the roadmap and gives you insights on current cap capabilities and future enhancements. Now, you've got the reports, so all the reports that are available and their status in relation to your current usage of reports and.25:59Eventually what they need to be migrated to and then the scale. So gives you an idea of what the scale of your deployment in Catalos Center should be. So the 1st page of this report will give you an overview as you can see here.26:16Of these four key areas and then we delve into the details over up to 27 pages of detailed information on each point. So this is a PDF file you can download it and it will help you assess the migration rate readiness, so you don't need.26:33Need to put a report together, doing manual checks. We've done the heavy work for you. So without further ado, I would like to pass the, the.26:52Like to Irvin who will be doing our pdart demo. Irvin to you. Alright, thank you thanks for that nice explanation and also.27:02So the whole information that we can see here with the center and by infrastructure. So let's get started. Let me start sharing my screen and give me a second.27:22So as mentioned, as mentioned, we we have different reports as a and also well 1st main page that we have from Cisco. My recommendation to start working with all of the immigration with prime infrastructure, come to Cisco dot.27:41Here we can find in the search box the AI that it can help you to find the correct guides and also the steps that you can do.28:01And run the immigration process. Also remember that here we can find out the whole devices. I were trying here the AI that we have for you. And here you can ask your questions also about the and as you can see I asked before like the Cisco infrastructure just with the pdr.28:11And here give me gives me a nice explanation about how to run it and how to find it.28:32Also remember that it's important that we can have in mind what will be the versions compatible between the prime infrastructure and also currently center. So you can write here like the immigration guide and you are gonna see here the whole immigrations strategies and also the.28:40Compatible version that we have for that ones.28:59As you can see, it's you know in right now the guide and also some quick replies about that and it will point you to the correct direction of the guides that we can use for it for you. Also you can find the whole sources that we are using to to do this AI response.29:021st I recommend you to come here and go to the immigration guide. Here on the immigration guide, we are gonna find the step by step that explained us and also you're gonna find a very nice way that we can see the steps.29:23So just remember eh, I know that sometimes it's a little eh, to a lot of text that we can see it, but it's good that we have some reference backup that we can start working on and to start planning the immigration from Callie Center to to sorry the primary migration.29:39Also, it's important to mention that we need to review what what versions of compatible of the prime infrastructure and the center they are compatible. Not all of the versions of prime infrastructure are compatible with with your center. So just keep in mind that we may just need to.30:01To review, which version you are working on.30:21And, well, the way that you can find these compatible versions between between the prime and the center, you can find it also here under the the prime infrastructure immigration tools and well here also you can find the immigration best practices with a nice video and that video was made from the.30:24The team, and well, also we recommend you to run the Pdart before trying to do the immigration. The pdart, as you may have here from and on, it's the assessment of your infrastructure. In order that we can run the Pdart.30:44It's important that we have two ways to install this better tool. We have the 1st to execute from the CLI of your prime infrastructure and to directly download from your download section on your prime infrastructure, we can download directly the patch and install it inside the the system.31:03Patches from your carly center.31:23Here it comes a nice explanation how we can do it both ways. Just keep in mind that we need to run an extra patch. It could be CLI I pretty much use this this option when we have prime infrastructure without ethernet or or an DMC. In this way.31:25We just need to download manually and install manually. Otherwise, if we have access to the internet with within your prime infrastructure, we can run and execute the patch directly.31:45You can find here the links from the patch and this is the option to execute the via UBF patch and go with the latest patches that you have. Here, as you can see, if we just open that, it will point us to the correct tool that we can.31:56Download and install manually or we can download from the patches section under the prime infrastructure. Also remember that it depends on your version of your prime infrastructure. It will be the compatible between your.32:13With with immigration between the prime and the center. How we can find that and also how we can do this immigration tool? Well, you can find here also under the the immigrations or you can ask here, like, hey, I have my cisco prime infrastructure three.nine.32:29And sorry and my my call center it's on 237. In this way it if they are compatible.32:48You can use this AI by Cisco and in this way we can also have a quick reply. If they are compatible. Also, they will be also already sponsored by the whole information that we have in our database and well the related documentation that you can use to know.33:06If if they are compatible or not. Here you can see that the Cisco infrastructure three.nine and the center 237, they are compatible and we are ready to do that. And well, you have another key points that we are gonna review right now with the, with the demo part.33:24But I just want to show you that you have already these options for you and it's easy just from the cisco.com page. So, in order that we we can run or once we already install the UVF patch, we are gonna obtain a patch that we can run it from, from the infrastructure.33:43And also the nice part from here is that we can start seeing that. So how we are gonna do this? Just I just skipped some some time because it will time it will take some time to do the immigration process so that's why I'm trying to make it more easy for you to see it in this quick video.34:05Just come to the prime infrastructure and you can find out the immigration tool here under the last tab. Once you are ready to to run the immigration tool and the and run the file, we are gonna obtain the information sorry.34:25And we are gonna download a file that it will be the whole report of your infrastructure. This file, it will be like this one. It will give you a quick idea about how many devices you have, the the current status of that devices if they are supported or or if they are not unsupported on your.34:42Center. Also maybe if for some of them just require a software upgrade in order to be supported on center. And the nice part from here is that we are gonna find the use cases. What means this? Well, remember that we have sections infrastructure and that sections it could be the maps, the heat maps, the reports, the assurance.35:02Part well all of that use cases we list here and we we change and we made the the.35:22The variable that it means on prem infrastructure, now you can see it on cally center. In this way, if we change the names of some menus, you can know where directly they are on calling center.35:30And well, it's the same for the reports. Maybe we have some reports that we are not using and they are unsupported, well, you're gonna know that some of your reports are not gonna be supported and we're gonna see which reports they are not supported right now. Well, also we can know more about about the kind of appliance that you have.35:45On your call center. Also, if you have some virtual appliance on your ESXi or hardware appliance, you can know here.36:05And well, let's see more information like the summary results about our inventory, how many devices they are supported or they are not supported in our center, and well, what means these red colors and green colors?36:15And yellow colors, well here is the legend. What means that? Sadly, we have some isrs that they are not supported from the from now on the center, but some of them they are. So just keep in mind that all of the devices that are not supported.36:32Happened to that devices? Well.36:52If they are having the CLI and the SNMP correct or synchronized, we are gonna see that devices in our inventory under center, but we are gonna see a legend that it's not supported. We are not gonna obtain more information than that and neither the SNMP information, just a legend.36:54Vendor it's not supported. We can keep that devices that they are not unsupported on carly center on prime infrastructure meanwhile, and we change to the newer devices and that could be one of the reasons that we we can keep the the prime infrastructure working together with Carly Center.37:14Also, some of them, they just require a software upgrade. We can do it that upgrade on your prime infrastructure or in your carly center. You don't have to worry to do it on your prime before trying to migrate to the carly center. With the usage of swim on carly center, we can upgrade that device that it's not supported. We can.37:30And just throw the, the, the new image and they will be supported and working well with your center. The devices will show us which device in specific and software version they are not supported.37:50Right now we are just seeing the routers and well also we are gonna see some scale compatibility results like the different kind of flavors of the servers that we have for the center. Well, here it's DNA center.38:08I apologize for that sometimes, the view just don't make any new updates on these appliances. So that's why we see the DNA center. But as mentioned in the beginning, we don't have to worry. They are just change of names. DNA Center means carry center.38:25And well, here you can see how many devices can be supported from prime infrastructure now in your center and well the roadmap for, for that and newer appliances. The use cases that we have here, we're gonna see the different parts of the menu, like the monitor administration.38:44The maps, the inventory, what will, what will be the meaning for that? Well, it will be.39:04How you're gonna use the actions that you have you used to do it or did it in your infrastructure. Now how you can do it in your center. We can see here a detail part of the menus, how many of them you are gonna be supported and one of them, they are not.39:10Supported anymore. It could be a CC like the inventory. We used to see the network devices in the inventory from the infrastructure. Now it will be just inventory on call center.39:29Maybe for the wireless voice audit, we used to have it under the tools. Well, they are not supported sadly in your center, but we have another options that we can support more information than just an audit. We have the compliance engine on your center and that will be automatically and also use AI to try to detect and.39:41And extra errors and also if we are potential on a potential risk with that information.40:01The alarms and events also you can see it that now you are gonna find it under the assurance issues and if you can ignore or resolve that alarms and events. The syslog viewer has.40:09As the monitoring tools, they are not already in the, in the monitoring tools, but you can use the the syslog embedded file or sorry, engine that it's under the center, so you don't need to work work right now under the monitoring tools. You are gonna find this directly on the device.40:24Information and well you can see here some of them they are still the same and you can find like the stream servers now under the system three 60 view, the job dashboards now it will be named as activity center.40:45Well, the license dashboard now it's called as a license manager. And well all of the equivalents from structure to the calling center and which they are not on calli centre. This is a good idea where you can start like to be familiar with the menus of the calling center.41:00And in this way, you can know if it's supported or it's not available anymore on your call center.41:20Remember that with the newer versions of of callie centre, we are adding more actions and also parts that we can analyze for your network. And we are trying to get more AI to use within your daily actions. So that's why it's, we are deprecating some of the.41:27Information here like maybe Google alert. It's not anymore on your maps, but also we are powering all of our maps by Google to find the.41:46The addresses. So we don't need to do it manually like we used to do it on prime infrastructure. Also we can migrate some CMX and data to the maps, but just keep in mind that we are already or we already upgrade the CMX to Cisco spaces. So when you.41:57Get your CMX to Cisco spaces. I recommend you to to add your Cisco spaces rather than your CMX.42:17If your CMX it will be still working with carly centre. Depends on your version of your prime of your carly center, not all of the versions are supported with CMX. Just keep in mind that. Well for inventory and services, also it will be the same, just compare one of them eh they are not supported. Here the service.42:26Those are more for the MSC or the modity service engine and well that that tool it's already duplicated, so that's why we already created from the support.42:47The configuration it will be the same. Pretty much we used to have the compliance and the violation summary. Now we're gonna find under the compliance in every device that you have here. I'm gonna show you part of that. The reports check summary, we can see here how many of them are on device report.42:58How many of them are supported and well also here comes the names of the reports that you used to work, now how you can find it on calling center or if we closed or or duplicate that old report.43:18Some of them, they are already integrated in on your reports and that's why we are creating them. And well, if you want to know more information about your hardware from your infrastructure, like the current usage of the CPUs, the current usage of the RAM or the devices that you have in your inventory.43:32You can find it here on this section under this section, the platform checks and detailed results. The total memory, it will also give you the whole information, what's the the current one that we have been using, and also here it's a nice part where we can see by percentage which part of the disk it's using the.43:51That a percent of the amount amount of of percentage in our device or in our hardware.44:11So you remember, it's nice to run this tool. It's mandatory? No, but it's a good point to check before running the PDM tool or the prime data migration tool.44:19I recommend you strongly to run this one because with this one you can know exactly what you, what are you gonna migrate from prime to center. Now let's do and let's see how we can run the PDM tool.44:321st here on the infrastructure, we are gonna see the maps and well, I recommend you to 1st check what well with information of the of the we can see what we are gonna migrate. I recommend you to add some maps here.44:50Here for this demo, I just add a map with the floor one just to add some map to the heat map, but remember all of the of the point of this is that all of your position of your access points are gonna migrate to the center without doing anything else. So just you if you have the PDM tool you.45:08Can run it and they will be automatically immigrate to the center. Also, it's good to check your templates. Remember that we can also migrate templates as mentioned.45:27The templates, it could be, the ones that you are using right now or maybe you just want to have the latest templates. It depends on you. So that's why I recommend you to also check which templates you are gonna migrate and well the ones that you need to see it in into your calling centers. Sometimes we just have a hundred.45:41And we are just using five or ten of them. So maybe we can just check which of them are we gonna migrate and also we can do it. Also remember, once we already finished the immigration, you can come here to the prime and just migrate the ones that you need more on your center.46:01Here for this demo, I just create a template that's a host name with the switch one, and I just need to to change the name of the devices to the switch one. We don't need an extra strong thing. They are compatible, you just need to do to do the template. Now let's check the devices. Remember that the devices have to.46:18Be unmanaged state and complete state. If they are partial collection failure or they have another state unmanaged.46:38They won't be migrated to the center. So it's important to keep in mind that that they have to be unmanaged and complete state. The reason is that because when we are trying to add into inventory, the CLI or the SNMP credentials are not working. Well, that's why we are not trying to add.46:46Into inventory. So that's why I do recommend you to check which devices you want to migrate. Maybe we have some duplicated devices that we don't need any more into your calling center. Well, we can skip them or we can clean up that inventory before.47:06Bringing up that all devices to the currently center. So just keep in mind that, they have to be unmanaged and complete set. Managed means that the CLI it's working and the inventory collection failure collection it's the SNMP credentials working.47:22Alright, so just give me a second ok now in order that we can see the center, you can start working also with the discovery process. The other way that we can add new devices.47:41Devices to the center, it's using the discovery process. The discovery process, it will be easy to find.48:01Just give me a second. I will show you my carly center. Here on your center, you can find the discovery process under the tools. Just you just need to go to the menu, find the tools.48:09And here under the tools you're gonna find discovery. Why, you may need to run this discovery process instead doing the, the immigration or the PDM tool. Well, sometimes we already changed the IP addresses and devices and they are already turned off.48:24And we have 50 or a hundred devices that we don't know if they are working well or if they are ok. Maybe we can just come here to the discovery process and run the discovery process and find the ones that are working right now.48:44You can have different options from the discovery process like the Cisco Discovery protocol if you have enabled in your configurations by IP address ranges or by 3rd party devices like include your discovery protocol or CIDR.49:01The most common way that I have seen with my customers, it's the IP address range. Well, this is easy, this is just a matter to add the the IP address, maybe from the ten zero to the yeah to the ten to the 255.49:16Sorry, two five. Now, which ranges or which/you can run here? I recommend you to add by/twenty four, more than a/twenty four, sometimes the center gets slow and we have a slow performance.49:34So I recommend you to add maybe divided by/twenty four. If you have more than a/twenty four, you can add a/twenty three but it will be a little slow, not as a/twenty one, but it will take some time to run quickly. Personally, I just recommend to use the/twenty four from ranges.49:53And I'll mix it up here. So here you can mix different ranges from IP addresses.50:13And if you don't want to find the whole list of IP addresses, you can just add some slashes and well, just it's a matter to add this plus and you can mix another range. Once you are ready, you can select which will be the management IP address if you have a.50:20A look back IP address that we can ping it or none. What will be the process of this discovery process?50:40I'm just gonna exit. I don't want to add the whole devices here. Yeah, I already run all these some of these discovery process and you can see here that we have the status. The ICM, the ICMMP protocol works. Yes, that means that we reach the device, the SNMP credentials works yes?50:48They are working well. For the SNMP credential, it's important we that we mention that we have or we support version two and version three.51:08If you have version two, you can add communities with just read only. It's not the, it's not the best practice because we are gonna lose some capabilities to manage the device since we don't have a right permissions. So that's why I recommend you to add read and write communities for the SNMP version two, and for the version.51:18Entry, well you can add the level of permissions to have read and write permissions to the username. With the CLI, we we just need to ping it and we need to have access to the device in order that we can obtain the information and manage from the center. Without CLI, we cannot add the device.51:37Into the inventory and we are not gonna have any information from them.51:57And well, just for the wireless devices, you can add the netconf port and the HTTP URL. Once we have seen or see these green marks, this means that everything works well and we're gonna see these devices in our inventory automatically. And you don't need to do anything else that.52:01Don't see that device in the, into the inventory.52:21Also, another way that we can add new devices is directly from the inventory page in where you are gonna find the add device button. This, this button that it's at the device, we're gonna see a pop menu that also will give us the different options that we can add new.52:25Devices. It could be by a single device or we can import a list of devices by an Excel file. In this way, you can just download the template and then fill the template within the information that we need of the devices. And this case, this is just in case that you don't want to ping every device that you have in your network.52:44And try to add it into the inventory. This way you can add just the specific IP addresses that you want to add into your inventory and then the SNMP version, like some of the information like the CLI and some of them.53:04That we need to add it in order that we have in the, in the inventory. With this information, you can just be specific as you want. And well, about the wireless controllers, my recommendation is just to add the wireless controller. You don't need to add every access point that you have in your inventory.53:18Because when we have managed the access points by the wireless controller, well, they will be auto automatically added into the inventory in the section of the access points so you don't have to do anything else than add the wireless controller. So just keep in mind that just just add the wireless controller and that will add automatically the.53:36Access points.53:56Oh. So returning to the immigration practice, let's do that. We here it's how we are gonna run the give me a second. Well, once we already are ready to do the immigration tool.53:58We are gonna go to the tab of migration prime data migration tool in the last tab, and we're gonna find the 1st menu that we can add information of the center. 1st, it will be the manage the enterprise IP address. Remember that we have different IP addresses under cally center. It will be the management.54:16The enterprise, if you have some proxy, if you have some, backend IP address, well the one that we need to to point here, it will be the enterprise, the one that it's routed to your to your calling center. Also remember that this IP address have to be routed in your.54:35Network. So that's why we need to have the enterprise IP address.54:55Then you can add your usernames. I just add here mine, I remind you to with the super admin privilege. Also, it's important to mention that we have or we need to have super admin credentials in your infrastructure in order to run this tool and admin credentials on calling center with.55:00All permissions we are gonna see here that they are not ok and we're gonna see a red mark and you need to change that.55:20Once you are ready, just add your username, your password and the confirmed password. All right, once you also you can have different multi server settings in the case that you wanna store an backup from the from your prime infrastructure, you.55:26Can do it from here and you can set up the different servers that you can use as a storage to do the backup.55:46Okay, alright, well if we open the multi service settings, we are gonna see the list of service settings that we can we can use it. As you can see the backup information, how we're gonna add another backup to.55:54Store that backup of your infrastructure.56:14And well, if you have the green mark that means that it's reachable and it's ok to start running the immigration process. So let's do it. Well, here you can also find the data immigration guide. If you don't find it on cisco.com, you can come here and download the guide and also review the.56:17Guide to run this process. Well, once we are ready, we can go to the sync settings or to the next bottom.56:37When we are going to the next button, we can hear control how we will be the behavior of the servers between the prime infrastructure and the calling center. If we want to have to have a automatic synchronization from prime infrastructure to call it center, we can enable from here. Just keep in mind that the.56:44Communication between both servers are gonna be just one direction. It will be just from prime infrastructure to call this center. If we made some changes on carly centre, we are not gonna be able to do that changes on your prime infrastructure. And why you may wanna do that? Well, maybe you are using some templates and you change the template on.57:04And your prime infrastructure, well that that change of template, it will be passed to the center. Also it will be there for the hierarchy or the whole information of the hierarchy, buildings, floors and maps that we have here. Also there will be they will be affected. If you do the change on prime infrastructure, they will be.57:24Automatically change to the center. So just keep in mind that if you select this one, don't mess with the prime and if you're not, if you do it, you can erase configurations or hierarchy on your center.57:44Well, if you have a CMX available, you can enable from here to enable the ICE and CMX servers and settings. If you have ICE, also you can pass the information from ICE to the calling center. Here with the ice, it can just manage one.58:01System at the time. So it will lose the capabilities to run the ice with prime infrastructure, now it will be just managed by calling center.58:21Well, for the CLI templates, also we can select if we wanna migrate some CLI templates. If we wanna add some CLI system templates, you can do it from here. And well, if you have some role based control policies, you can do it to manage that controls or that roles now into your center.58:33If we just wanna manage to just migrate the hierarchy or the sites with the position of the access point, you can just select the migrate only sites. Also here we are gonna know how many of the devices are being supported and the limits to be migrate into the into the center.58:53Alright, so we are ready to go to the next and let's select the groups. Here, it's one of the most important parts that we are running the migration and needs to do or redo the hierarchy. Here you have the option, maybe if you have a a clean.59:12There are you maybe playing with them.59:31And now it's it's time to to set up the whole thing to run the business. Well, you can delete the, the, the demos or the things that you were trying and now just migrate the hierarchy from the infrastructure. So with this option, you're gonna delete the hierarchy that you used to have in your current center.59:33We can select to just replicate the parent hierarchy. Maybe we just wanna select the different sites and we wanna obtain that parent hierarchy. Well, we can do it from here. Also, we can just sync the new section selections that we wanna see it.59:52This means that the center will be show what a part of the of the sites are ready to migrate and also one of them, they are a new one to migrate. Here you can see it will be marked as a mark for migration, and we're gonna see the whole hierarchy of what will be immigrated.01:00:09Remember that we can create campus over campus, then buildings over campus and floors over buildings. We cannot create buildings over buildings and because it will be the same, but we can create a different areas of locations like.01:00:30The whole estate, then maybe different campus that you have in your state and then the buildings that you have in that campus. So that's why we have that kind of hierarchy here.01:00:49If we hit save and update TV location, it's important to have the address. This address it's powered by by Google Maps, so you just need to write the different addresses that you have by building, and this will show you the different options that we've found on Google Maps.01:01:01If you have some calling center that is on DMC, you are not gonna be able to obtain these addresses. And we can just add any address that you can you can have here because we are not gonna see the whole map that we used to have it with Google maps.01:01:20It's important to mention that this will be one of the important parts to run the analysis of your wireless location, the heat maps, and also to try to, to have the most accurate location of your of the of your devices.01:01:40So it's important to write the correct direction. Also we can, change that direction once we already have the building into your into your call center.01:01:58And just keep in mind that it's important to obtain the correct direction here. Here were just playing with some Cisco streets that we have on San Jose. You can see here they they fill automatically the latitude and the longitude and.01:02:09That we have for that and well, then once we already added, we just need to save it and click again save and they will be auto updated. Now let's go to the next tab, to the select CLI templates. We are seeing here our template that we made for this demo. This.01:02:28Template were just for the host name change for the switch one name. You can select which template you want to migrate.01:02:48And then if you wanna run again this this process after you already finished this, you can rerun this and add new templates on your center without deleting everything. Then just see a summary about about the groups of devices that we are gonna add. Maybe we have ignored some of the.01:02:55The groups of the devices, which access points we are gonna migrate, the maps that we're gonna migrate, the CLI templates, and the sync settings that we saw it in the step two.01:03:15Once we are sure that we want to migrate that, you just need to hit see submit and we're gonna see this menu that it will take us step by step in which process they are running. So here we can see the current state of progress. I just made this this was one of the reasons that I made a video because this could take time.01:03:25It could take between 10 min or half an hour or an hour depends on the number of devices that you have in your in your inventory and maps that you have in your prime infrastructure.01:03:45Once we already finished, we can just go to the network hierarchy and see the campus that we already immigrate. This, this was the our hierarchy that we have here with the San Jose campus site. Also right now it's already in the maps, so we expect to have the maps now in your calling center.01:03:55And well, if we have access points and we already have the wireless controller into the center, they will auto position the access points as we used to have it on prime infrastructure. So you don't have to worry to redo the whole maps with the position of the access points and the walls and the obstacles that you that you used to have in your maps well.01:04:15You can see it here automatically with this numeration process.01:04:35So just remember, be patient. It will take some time to run this migration tool and well depends pretty pretty much on your maps and your number of devices that you have or you want to migrate. As you can see, let's see for the device or sorry, for the floor that we used.01:04:41To have it on prime.01:05:01We are gonna see the map with the current obstacles and access points. I didn't have I I couldn't obtain any access point right now to show you how see how you can see it, but it will be the same. It's pretty much straightforward. Let's compare what we used to have on infrastructure. We used to have San Jose with some.01:05:03Because the building and the floor one and it's the same that we have on prime infrastructure now.01:05:23And well, just remember if you select the option that if if you have enabled the communication between prime and and Cally Center after this process, if you made some changes on prime, they will be auto affect the center hierarchy.01:05:30And well, let's see also the other things that we wanna migrate, like the templates. We can find the templates now under the design CLI templates, and here on the CLI templates, we are gonna find a new project.01:05:48That it will be called.01:06:08Prime infrastructure templates or yeah prime imported templates, sorry. Yeah, it's a lot of names. So sometimes you are gonna find here the CLI templates projects that you used to have on prime. Under this this project name, you're gonna find the same templates that you used to have.01:06:12On prime infrastructure, and well you don't need to redo anything else. The tribute what we used to have on prime infrastructure, we have the technologies template site. Now our templates that we select to that is the one that we have seen here, the template for migrate to prime to CC.01:06:30Sometimes they add an extra information like the iOS XE device type that it's a target for this template, but just remember that it will be the same templates alright. Remember that you can find the templates under this.01:06:50Time and CLI templates and well pretty much it's it's the same to run the templates.01:07:09Remember that also just check your devices that they will be added into the discovery process or that we select from prime to the calling center. It will be pretty much the same as we used to have it on prime. They need to be on synchronized and managed state.01:07:16And well, here, it's pretty much that that I already explained and well with this, we are reaching the last part of the demo. Please, if you have any doubt, just post it into the section of the Q and A.01:07:33That we have for you. We have the slider section where you can add that question and also if you need extra help, just contact your sales team and they will reach us to to us, you can contact directly to Manon or myself or one of my partners Adam or Peter, we are very.01:07:50And glad to hear you that you see or you can you saw us here. So I'm passing the ball to the and thanks. Thanks Manon.01:08:10All right. Excellent. So let me share my screen once more.01:08:20All right, guys. So now let's just remind you, let's take a look at some of the migration best practices. So remember, you have to ensure that your prime is running the recommended release. You have the device packs, the patches, the software versions. Make sure.01:08:41That you're running the last version or ideally a gold version of Catalyst Center?01:09:01You can only integrate one catalyst center server at a time. Remember also that groups with MT zero null civic locations will be ignored for migration. And as Irvin has mentioned, the civic location is important because.01:09:06It will have some impact down the line on your catalyst center and how you can implement some of the AI features such as AI enhanced RRM.01:09:26Cisco Catalyst Center will not migrate if the empty null civic location is there in any building that has NO floor. Sorry about that. Let me rephrase. Catalyst Center will not migrate the location and civic data of any building that has NO floor.01:09:39If you bring floors to that building though, you want to have your civic locations down the line, don't forget, they're really important. To successfully migrate the Cisco eyes from prime infrastructure to Catalos center, you must you must 1st.01:09:58Activate PX grid on Cisco ICE and enable ERS and make sure that ICE has CLI and GUI passwords that are the same. So again, single session on migration at a time.01:10:17One Catalyst Center at a time and be mindful of those locations. All right? Also remember, once the CMX is migrated, it will not be managed by Cisco Prime infrastructure. Any legacy devices that are not supported by Catalyst Center that are chosen in your.01:10:35Migration will be added to Catalyst Center, but they may show as unsupported Cisco device in the device type column.01:10:55Any device which may fall under the default group category can that cannot be migrated to Catalyst Center. Any devices managed with only SMPV one credentials and prime.01:11:03Cannot be migrated to catalyst center. You need SMPV two or V three to migrate to Catalyst center. Only the basic information that the group will be migrated, not the rules and profiles assigned to the group and.01:11:19There are some notions of, of composite templates that are important to remember. The associate template should not be a system template. If any composite template.01:11:36Has a system template. It will not be migrated. Only CLI user defined templates, maps, topology, devices, and configuration, ICE and CMX will be migrated. All right?01:11:53There is a limit to the number of sites and devices that can be migrated. It will depend on the appliance model of catalyst center. The netconf credentials will be added in the call center manually if they are needed. And the wlcs will need the netconf credentials when integrated.01:12:11With catalyst center. So remember netconf port 830 and uses SSH.01:12:30All right, so if you have any outstanding questions at this time, I would invite you to ask them in the Q and A panel, and we'll be taking them for a few minutes.01:12:38While we give you time to enter your last few questions, I'd like to, to let you know that you can find our information about the expert insights series and the expert insights Catalyst Center section of the Cisco website. And you can always reach to your Cisco team if you'd like an engagement with one of us csss.01:12:56You can reach out to your account team and they will link us up. It'll be our pleasure to assist you. All right? So this conclude our session. We appreciate your time and attendance. Thank you all for joining us today. I would like also to give a shout out.01:13:16Out to our amazing panelists, Peter and Adam, and they kept the show show going, so big thanks to you to my coworker Irvin as well. So this was expert expert insight series moving from prime infrastructure to callist center. We hope you have a great day and don't forget that survey.01:13:36Thank you.01:13:56
