Hello in this video we'll cover the new inter site SaaS backup and restore functionality. I'll cover a few key points on the new inter site backup and restore functionality and then show a brief demo.00:07Intersight allows for on demand backups of logical configuration objects including organizations, profiles, policies, and pools. These backups are stored in the inter site account in which they're created. You can download a backup file and upload it to the same or another supported Intersight deployment.00:20One potential use case is taking policies and profiles from inter site SaaS and restoring them to a connected virtual appliance. Creation of backups can be done while the system is up and running and it does not impact the server or network traffic. However, it is recommended to avoid modifying configuration objects while a backup is in progress.00:39Risk to minimize failures. I'll go over a couple of requirements. The 1st is that you must be an account administrator to run a backup or restore job. The account must also have an inter site essentials or higher tier license. The account can contain a maximum of 50 logical configuration backups.00:58Retained backups count towards this limit. Retained backups are backups that can be flagged against unintentional deletion. Only a single backup operation can run at a time. Scheduled logical configuration backups and incremental backups are currently not supported. However, using the inter site API and a cron scheduler, you can accord.01:17Accomplished similar behavior. Additionally, granular restore of a single profile policy pooler template is currently not supported. The partial restore is available, however, at the organization level. Intersight encrypts the backup so that passwords and other sensitive information are not stored in clear text.01:37When you download a backup to your system, you must also protect the file using either a public private key pair or password provided at download time. Intersight does not store your public key or password, so be sure to securely manage these keys as they are required to decrypt the downloaded file.01:56In this demo, we're gonna go over the backup and restore functionality. So underneath settings, we'll go to backup and restore, we'll click create a backup, and then here we'll give a backup name. We can optionally set tags, we can set a description, and then we can choose whether to preserve identities from our pool.02:14And profiles.02:33And then we'll go ahead and create this particular backup job. Now what we can do is we can go to the request tab and click in there and we can see that the configuration backup is running. So this will take a few minutes.02:38Now we see that it has been completed, so what we can do is we can actually enable or disable retention. Retention prevents accidential deletion of this backup job. So we can hear this one is retained. We can also download this locally. So here we can do download.03:01And then it'll ask us for our public private key or password based encryption. If we need further information, we can go to the help center. It has some examples on the public private key encryption as well as the password encryption. In this case, we'll do public private encryption, so what we'll do is we'll generate a set.03:17Of public and private keys that we're gonna encrypt the backup with.03:37And here we'll grab our public key, and we'll go ahead and copy and add this into intersight. So now intersight's going to encrypt the back.03:43Back up and then once the backup's been finished encrypting, we can go ahead and we can download it. We also have the checksum so we can do a checksum validation as well.04:03So we'll go ahead and download this particular backup, and then within the help center, we have information on how do you validate the checksum as well. So if we scroll down through the documentation, we can see here the 02:50.04:12Six and then the downloaded archive.04:32So we can run that and we can see that it does match, so that's good. And we'll go ahead and move this to another folder where we'll go ahead and extract it to take a look at the contents So now what we'll do is we'll do.04:35Download this encrypted backup, so there is a script available in the help documentation if you want to optionally decrypt the backup and take a look and see what's inside. So we've already downloaded that script.04:54And here we have the instructions, so I'll just go ahead and decrypt that, and then once it's been decrypted, we can just go ahead and untar that file and we can see a bunch of different JSON files have been created with our configuration from intersight. So we can go into one of these folders, which is our organizations.05:09And then from there we can take a look at a particular policy or profile that's been created. So here we have a pool for the IP pool, and we can scroll down, we can see the name information on there, e.g..05:28So now what we'll do is we'll go back over to Intersight and we'll do a restore operation. So for that, what we'll do is we're gonna start out by just deleting one of the policies in our account. So here we have this demo source org BIOS policy.05:45We'll just go ahead and remove this and now we can see that it's gone, so we'll go back to our backup and restore, and then from here what we'll do is we'll use this existing backup job to restore that policy.06:02Let's see, so we'll click over here and do restore.06:22And we'll give it a name, and then we'll choose the restore type, whether merge or replace, and then if there's any errors, we'll continue, roll back or stop. And then down here we'll choose to do a partial restore. So we'll go ahead and.06:25Use that source organization where we deleted the BIOS policy.06:45And then under here we can take a look to see what's available. So here we have that one particular BIOS policy that we want to restore. So we'll go ahead and do a restore, and then towards the top, we can go into the request tab and we can see that the restore is in progress, which will take a couple minutes.06:54So we can see that that has been completed, so if we go back under configure and policies, we do see that our demo source org BIOS was updated a few seconds ago, so it was successfully restored. We can also go back to the backup and restore tab and just check on the status of the overall restore.07:22So we can see that it was completed and then if we go and look at the individual items like the policies, e.g., we can see that it was completed here.07:42So here we've successfully done a backup and restore using Intersight's new feature.07:51
