Background Information

SMS is an automated distribution system. SMS allows you to remotely manage the distribution and installation of the Cisco MeetingPlace for Outlook add-in form and extension. Specifically, you can use SMS to automate these operations:

  • Install the Outlook add-in files on your user systems.

  • Uninstall the Outlook add-in files from your user systems.

  • Update your user systems with any changes to the Configure Client Utility.

SMS Package Creation

In order to perform any of the operations in the Background Information section of this document, you must first create an SMS package:

Complete these steps:

  1. Locate the Setup.pdf file in the SMS directory of the Cisco MeetingPlace for Outlook CD-ROM.

The pdf file includes the list of files to install and descriptions of these command-line options:

    • SMS—A flag for SMS use

    • Silent—Suppresses the need for user input

    • Admin—Option for the installation of Cisco MeetingPlace for Outlook for all users

  2. Do one of these steps:

Note: The step you choose depends on the version of Cisco MeetingPlace for Outlook that you want to distribute.

    • For Cisco MeetingPlace for Outlook version 4, copy Setup.pdf and Setup.exe to the SMS server.

Note: You can find these files in the \latitude\mpweb\mpoutlook directory on the CD-ROM.

    • For Cisco MeetingPlace for Outlook version 3.4.x, copy MPSetup.pdf and MPSetup.exe to the SMS server.

  3. Create a new package, and import Setup.pdf into the package.

  4. Log on to the SMS server with Administrator privileges to issue the Install and Uninstall commands from this package.

The Install and Uninstall commands are among the commands that have support.

Note: Be sure to log on to the SMS server with Administrator privileges to issue these commands. A logon with Administrator privileges permits registry changes on locked desktops, as well as other actions.
