Introduction

Windows Media Server is part of the Windows 2000 Server Operating System component, and appears in the list of Operating System components as "Windows Media Services". With the Windows Media Services installed, the Cisco MeetingPlace Web server is able to stream Windows Media Format (.wma) audio files.

Note: You do not need to manually install Windows Media Encoder. Cisco MeetingPlace Web is bundled with Windows Media Encoder (version 7.0) which is installed and used to convert .wav files to .wma files. Do not manually install other versions of Windows Media Encoder because it causes the MeetingPlace Web .wav to .wma conversion to become non-functional.

Components Used

The information in this document is based on these software and hardware versions:

  • Cisco MeetingPlace Web 4.3.0.x and later

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, make sure that you understand the potential impact of any command.

Install the Windows Media Server

Windows Media Services must be installed before installing Cisco MeetingPlace Web. If Windows Media Services is installed after the Cisco MeetingPlace Web installation, you need to re-run the Cisco MeetingPlace Web installation program and tell the program that you have Windows Media Server.

  1. Select Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components.

  2. Scroll to the bottom and check Windows Media Services.

  3. Click Next.

  4. Windows 2000 installs the Windows Media Services files. You may be prompted to insert the Windows 2000 Server installation disk.

  5. When the installation completes, click Finish and then close the Add/Remove Programs control panel.

  6. Follow the prompts to install and then restart the gateway machine.

Install the Audio Portion of Cisco MeetingPlace Web

Follow this procedure:

  1. Make sure that you do not install the audio portion over Terminal Server. This does not work.

  2. Double-click on the MeetingPlace Web Conferencing installation program.

  3. After unpacking, the Installation Shield offers you choices of Modify, Repair, and Remove.

  4. Select Modify and click Next.

  5. Check Windows Media Server.

    caution Caution: Do not uncheck anything. These are the components that are already on your PC, and unchecking them causes them to be removed from your Windows server.

  6. Follow the prompts to install and then restart the gateway machine.

Configure Windows Media Server and Cisco MeetingPlace Web 4.3.0.x

Follow this procedure:

  1. Launch the Windows Media Admin by selecting Start > Programs > Administrator Tools > Windows Media.

    1. Click on Unicast Publishing Points.

    2. Double-click on the path specification (for instance, c:\ASFRoot).

    3. Change this to the path where you would like to store your recordings and attachments.

      Use only the first folder (for instance, d:\wma_files).

      Note:  Create an mpweb\meetings folder under the root folder you choose. For example, if you want to save your recordings in d:\wma_files, you need to create the mpweb\meetings under the d:\wma_files folder (for example, you should have a final directory structure that looks like d:\wma_files\mpweb\meetings).

      Click OK after making path changes.

    4. Close the Windows Media Admin window.

  2. Launch MeetingPlace Web Admin by selecting Start > Programs > MeetingPlace Web Admin.

    1. Select Configure > Audio Encoding Service.

    2. Click on the WAV Conversion Parameters tab.

      Make sure the IP address (hostname) of the audio server is entered. If an IP address is not entered, then you see "Processing Now" when you try to access the recordings.

    3. Click on the Windows Media Conversion Parameters tab.

    4. Enter the name or IP address of the Windows Media Server and the base path that was entered in the Windows Media Admin Screen.

      Note: This is also the first directory (for example, d:\wma_files).

    5. Click OK.

  3. Select Configure > Replication Service Parameters and make sure that Windows Media is checked under the Show Audio files in these formats section.

  4. Restart the MeetingPlace Agent, MeetingPlace Audio, and MeetingPlace Replication services.

  5. Schedule a test meeting and test the recording.

Verify

Verify that the Audio Portion of Cisco MeetingPlace Web is Installed

Follow this procedure.

  1. Select Start > Settings > Control Panel > Services.

  2. Ensure that the MeetingPlace Audio Service exists and is started.
