|
Document ID: 61982

Description of the Release
|
Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.3(8)XW is an ED (XED) release optimized for the Packet Data Serving Node (PDSN) and MWG Home Agent R2.0 for CDMA networks. The PDSN/HomeAgent can run on the Cisco 7200 VXR and Multiprocessor WAN Application Module (MWAM) card of Catalyst 6500/7600 platforms.
- In addition, the On-Demand Address Pool (ODAP)/ Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server high availability feature will be made available on the Cisco 7301 platform for BEMR customers from the same X release. This feature was developed for HomeAgent (HA) R2.0 and is being leveraged by the BEMR team.
- The HomeAgent R2.0 Release contains features for such Cisco customers as Bell Mobility, Swisscom, Nextel, Telus Mobility and Sprint, and so forth. Features include Packet of Disconnect, Resource revocation, HotLining, VRF, ODAP/DHCP based IP address allocation, and so forth.
- The PDSN R2.0 Release contains features for such Cisco partners as Motorola and Lucent and also direct customers like SKT and LGT, Korea, and China Unicom. Features include Always on user sessions, Prepaid billing, Packet of Disconnect, and so forth.
- The PDSN/HomeAgent feature set will remain the same on both 7200VXR and MWAM for Catalyst 6500/7600. Up to five instances of PDSN/HomeAgent images can run each MWAM card. This aggregates session capacity and throughput of the box.
Please refer to the presentation for Tetons-3 (12.2(17b)SXB). This is the supervisor Cisco IOS software which is required to support MWAM.
This release is based upon the Cisco IOS Software 12.3(8)T maintenance release. Any early deployment (ED) release of software should be used in a test network before it is deployed in a production network.
