Early Deployment (ED) Release Summary

Description

 Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.0(5)XS is a one-time release for the Cisco Catalyst 6000 series OC-12 ATM card supporting LAN emulation (LANE), Multiprotocol over ATM (MPOA) and RFC 1483. This X ED release is directly based on Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(5)T and is optimized for the Catalyst 6000 ATM card. Please note that Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(5)XS requires a ROM Monitor (ROMMON) upgrade (see the Release Notes).

The Catalyst® 6000 family, consisting of the Catalyst 6500 series and the Catalyst 6000 series, delivers a new line of high performance, multilayer switching solutions for campus networks. The Catalyst 6000 series uses Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(7)XE for intelligent routing.

The features of Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(5)XS will be ported to Cisco IOS 12.1(1)E and later to Cisco IOS 12.1(3)T.

Recommended Migration

If currently using Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(5)XS, the recommended upgrade path is to Cisco IOS 12.1(3)T or later.

The migration path is the logical superseding software. The uniqueness of each network requires that customers verify support for hardware, features, and protocols prior to a network upgrade.
