Early Deployment (ED) Release Summary

Description

 Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.0(7)XK is a short-lived ED release introducing several new features and hardware modules on the Cisco 2600, 3600, and MC3810 series routers. The new features of Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(7)XK include:
  • Q.SIG, Q.SIG Prime, and transparent signaling support for the Primary Rate Interface (PRI) in the Symphony architecture for the Cisco 2600, 3600, and MC3810 products. These features will include several enhancement for Voice over IP (VoIP) and Voice over Frame Relay (VoFR). 
  • Simple Gateway Control Protocol (SGCP) 1.1 support and some customer-requested enhancements on the Cisco MC3810, 2600, and 3600 platforms. 
  • An increase in the number of supported network module for the Cisco 3660 including onlin insertion and removal (OIR) support. 
  • The Fast Ethernet combination network module is a new network module to enhance the support of existing WAN interface cards/voice interface cards (WICs/VICs) in the existing combination network module. The combination network module fits into the Cisco 2600 and 3600 platforms.

 Cisco Systems, Inc. released Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(7)XK as a short-lived ED release for the Cisco 2600 series, Cisco 3600 series, and Cisco MC3810 Multi-Service Access Concentrator.

 The short-lived ED releases are based on Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0T and do not provide synchronized maintenance releases.

 Short-lived ED or X releases introduce specific features or new platforms to the marketplace prior to their integration into a major Cisco IOS Software technology release. Cisco IOS Software ED releases are based on Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0T. For more information, see the following pages: 

Maintenance Releases

 Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(7)XK is a short-lived release and does not provide maintenance releases. If needed, software rebuilds will use the following naming convention: Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(7)XK1, 12.0(7)XK2, and so on.

Interim Builds

 Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(7)XK will not provide interim builds.

Interim builds are not recommended and are not fully tested. Customers will only be provided with interim builds when a critical defect renders the maintenance release unusable.

Maintenance Release Synchronization Points

 Cisco IOS Software short-lived ED or X releases do not provide scheduled maintenance releases.

Recommended Migration

 Features of Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(7)XK will be ported to Cisco IOS 12.1(2)T.

 Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(7)XK is Y2K compliant.

General Deployment (GD) Plan

 Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(7)XK is not targeted for GD certification.

Life Cycle

 Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(7)XK is an ED release offering new features, platforms, or interface support. It has a short engineering life span with a migration path to Cisco IOS 12.1(2)T.
