Description |
Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.0DC was released to introduce the Node Route Processor (NRP) on the Cisco 6400 Series Serial Universal Access Concentrator platforms. The NRP is an ATM switching blade based on the Cisco 7200 series router that resides in the Cisco 6400. There can be one or more of both node switch processors (NSPs) (Digital Signal Processor) and NRPs in a Cisco 6400 platform at any one time. This custom hardware design offers Digital Subscriber Loop (xDSL) technology features. The Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(3)DC adds new functionality such as PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE) and Service Selection Gateway (a feature set sometimes referred to as NRP-SSG). This is the first time web-based service selection has been introduced into a branch of Cisco IOS. |

Recommended Migration |
If currently using Cisco IOS Software Release 11.3DB, the recommended upgrade path is Cisco IOS 12.0DC. Cisco IOS Software Release 11.3(9)DB is the last 11.3DB release.
Migration from 12.0DC is 12.1DC. The migration path is the logical superseding software. The uniqueness of each network requires that customers verify support for hardware, features, and protocols prior to a massive network upgrade.
