Description of the Release

 
 
 
Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.1(5)YA is a short-lived Early Deployment release (XED) optimized for the new universal router module (URM) for the Cisco IGX 8400 series. This release is based upon the 12.1T maintenance release. 

Universal Router Module
The Universal Router Module (URM) front card is the first IOS blade in the IGX 8400 series platforms creating voice and router functionality. URM provides voice interoperability between the IGX switches and the branch routers such as the Cisco 1700, 2600, and 3600 series platforms. Target Market

 
Cisco Systems, Inc. released Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(5)YA as a short-lived ED release for a new platform: the Cisco IGX 8400 series URM. URM is the first IOS blade on the IGX switches. It is targeted for the Enterprise Market.

Note:
The recommended migration path is the logical superceding release, which brings additional features and hardware support to the network without loss of previously configured functionality.  In this case the URM feature will be available again on Cisco IOS Software 12.2(2)XB release, and finally on the 12.2(3)T maintenance release.
