Description

Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.1(1)EX is a short-lived early delivery release based on the Cisco IOS 12.1E Specific Market Early Deployment (SMED). It has been optimized to deliver features specific to the Catalyst 6000 series. The features of Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(1)EX will be integrated into subsequent maintenance release of Cisco IOS 12.1E.

In line with Cisco IOS X Release practices, Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(1)EX does not provide maintenance builds. Software defect repairs and maintenance will be delivered on the migration path release, Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1E.
Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(1)EX is available on CCO as of February 28, 2000 and will be available through new hardware shipments on March 6, 2000.

Cisco IOS XED 12.1(1)EX is an early delivery release that will be obsolete once Cisco IOS STED 12.1E is available. Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1E will follow the standard Cisco IOS lifecycle.

Cisco IOS XED 12.1(1)EX has been released before the parent 12.1E due to TTM requirements for the Catalyst 6000 FlexWan Module. This means that Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(1)EX is not a superset of 12.1E but a subset previous to 12.1E. The router command "show version" will display the Cisco IOS banner which details the parent train.
