Description of the Release

Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.2(25)EZ is an ED (XED) release for the Mirage project on the Catalyst 3750 platform. This release is based upon the Spring 2005 Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(25)SEB maintenance release.

This release introduces four new SKUs into the existing Catalyst 3750 platform. It consists of these IOS supports:

  • LotR stacking capabilities (up to nine units)
  • Layer 2 switch functions
  • Inline Power over Ethernet (PoE)
  • Redundancy
  • Integrated management

Any early deployment (ED) release of software needs to be used in a test network before you deploy it in a production network.

The Mirage is based on HULC hardware architecture and the Sasquatch switching ASIC chipset from DSBU. HULC is a hardware architecture that you use to build low cost, stackable, 10/100/1000 Ethernet switches. These Ethernet switches are capable of Layer 2 and 3 forwarding at wire speed.

  • Stackability – Switches can be added and removed dynamically to the stack. They work together in order to provide features operational across the stack.
  • Integrated management – The user is presented an integrated system through all management interfaces (CLI, SNMP, and HTTP).
  • Redundancy – Features such as uplink-fast, Etherchannel, and equal-cost routing work across the stack, so that network disruption upon individual member failures is minimal.
  • Stack wide features - The individual systems work together in order to enable features to work across the stack.
  • Lord Of The Rings (LOTR) - The the first release of the HULC based platforms and software based on the Sasquatch ASIC chip set from DSBU. The Mirage is based on LOTR platforms from DSBU.

Target Market

Cisco Systems, Inc. released Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(25)EZ as a short-lived release for the Mirage family of integrated switches that you can insert into the Cisco 2800 and 3800 Series routers. The Mirage blades enable a variety of networking applications. The most important is the "branch in a box" concept. You can combine Mirage with CME, CUE, and a variety of voice and other networking interfaces in order to allow smaller branches to have a consolidated solution for branch networking and voice over IP.
