Main Release Summary

Description of the Release

 Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.1E is the specific market early deployment release (SMED) for the enterprise sector.  It is also the logical next release of Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0XE releases. 

Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(1)E is based on Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(1) mainline.  In addition to new features and hardware specific to Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1E, all functionality of Cisco IOS 12.1 mainline is also in 12.1E. 

Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(1)E is slated for March 27, 2000 on CCO. Cisco Manufacturing shipment is expected on March 27, 2000. For planned maintenance dates please go to the "Maintenance Release Section" below.

NOTE: Only 7100, 7200, CAT6000 and C6MSFC images are released to CCO on March 27, 2000. More information will be provided later on 7500 (rsp-*-mz) image availability.

Target Market

 Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1E is for general purpose use by Enterprise and Server Providers.

Interim Builds
8-week maintenance cycle: Five interim builds will be made available to development and critical customers.

Recommended Migration

 Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(1)E will migrate to Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(5)T. All maintenance updates will be placed into Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(5)T and future Cisco IOS 12.1 T maintenance releases.  Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(2)E and future 12.1E releases will continue on the 12.1E release for maintenance until further notice.
