Early Deployment (ED) Release Summary

Description

 Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.0DA is based on Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0T and provides underlying support for Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) technology supported on the Cisco 6260 DSL, Cisco 6130, and 6100 DSL Access Concentrators that are configured with NI-2 hardware.

Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(5)DA was released at the end of August 1999.

Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0DA provides regular maintenance revisions until end of engineering (EOE).

Note that Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0DA is a limited life release with regular maintenance and support available until a future mainline Cisco IOS release is available (targeted for the fourth quarter of 1999). At that time, all customers running Cisco Software Release IOS 12.0DA are required to upgrade to the new release for regular maintenance and support.

Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(5)DA runs on the NI-2 system card of the Cisco 6260. The NI-2 system card is available as an option on the Cisco 6100 and 6130. The following features are supported in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(5)DA1:

  • Support for the Cisco IOS command line interface (CLI).
  • Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) agent support for communicating between the Cisco 6260 and the DSL Access Manager (Enhanced Monitoring Services (EMS) for the Cisco 6260).
  • Configuration of platform interfaces and system-wide parameters including DSL access modem and WAN interfaces.
  • Support for ATM provisioning and configuration including both permanent virtual circuits (PVCs) and switched virtual circuits (SVCs).
  • Monitoring status and traffic flow for each interface.
  • Display, investigation, and disabling of critical, major, and minor alarms.
  • Maintenance support for isolation and resolution of problems.

Target Market

 Cisco Systems, Inc. released Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(5)DA with DSL support and service on Cisco's 6000 family of DSL Access Concentrators.

Product Support

 Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(5)DA is supported on the Cisco 6260 DSL Access Concentrator. It is also supported on the Cisco 6100 and 6130 DSL platforms, provided they are configured with an NI-2 system card. The NI-2 system card is the processing engine that runs the Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(5)DA release.

Maintenance Releases

 There will be a maintenance version of this release every seven weeks. Maintenance releases are fully synchronized to either Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0 or Cisco IOS 12.0T as appropriate.

Interim Builds

 Interim builds are not recommended and are not fully tested. Customers will only be provided with interim builds when a critical defect renders the maintenance release unusable.
7-week maintenance cycle: Cisco IOS 12.0DA will provide a maintenance release every seven weeks.
13-week maintenance cycle: Not applicable

Maintenance Release Synchronization Points

Recommended Migration

 It is recommended to upgrade from Cisco IOS Software Release 11.3DA to 12.0DA. It is also recommended to upgrade from Cisco IOS 12.0DA to 12.1(x).

 Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0DA is Y2K compliant.

General Deployment (GD) Plan
