Early Deployment (ED) Release Summary
Description |
Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.0XE is based on the Cisco IOS 12.0T main line and will be a series of short-lived releases delivering Enterprise-specific features. Once the functionality is proven on this early delivery release, it is folded back into subsequent maintenance releases of Cisco IOS 12.0T.
Additionally, some functionality of Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(x)XE may be carried to Cisco IOS 12.0(x)S. For example, all of the features in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(1)XE will also appear in Cisco IOS 12.0(1)S. The first customer ship (FCS) of Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(1)XE will include support for the following:

Maintenance Releases |
The Cisco IOS X releases (short-lived) do not provide maintenances. They fold back into the Cisco IOS Software 12.0T Technology train. Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0(x)T interim builds will be available to customers (through DE or the TAC) to fix bugs found in Cisco IOS 12.0(x)XE releases.
Interim Builds |
Interim builds are not recommended and are not fully tested. Customers will only be provided with interim builds when a critical defect renders the maintenance release unusable.

||||
Maintenance Release Synchronization Points |
Not applicable. For more information, see the Projected Release Dates for Cisco IOS Software Product Bulletin.
Recommended Migration |
In general customers using an XE release would migrate to a subsequent Cisco IOS Software 12.0T release. Unless specific features of that release are required, it is not necessary to migrate to the next XE release. The migration path is the logical superseding software. The uniqueness of each network requires that customers verify support for hardware, features, and protocols prior to a massive network upgrade. For more information, see the Projected Release Dates for Cisco IOS Software Product Bulletin. |
||||
Year 2000 (Y2K) Compliant |
