Early Deployment (ED) Release Summary
Description of the Release |
The Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.0ST Early Deployment (ED) release train is the support vehicle for Tag Switching or Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) functionality. Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0ST is directly based on the Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0S software branch and, therefore, includes all of the features that are part of the Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0S ISP release. Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0ST will also continue to synchronize with Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0S in an effort to inherit bug fixes committed to the parent branch. The following features characterize the first release of Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0ST. Refer to the Cisco IOS 12.0(11)ST Product Bulletin for new features that are targeted for 12.0(11)ST. Refer to the Cisco IOS 12.0(14)ST Product Bulletin for new features that are targeted for 12.0(14)ST. In addition to these specific MPLS features, Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0 ST will support all MPLS features currently shipping in the Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0S. These include basic MPLS (label switching and label imposition/disposition on Engine 0, 1, and 2) and MPLS Traffic Engineering (both OSPF and IS-IS on Engine 0, 1, and 2 POS interfaces only). Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0ST is the logical superset of Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0 Mainline, which introduced Tag Switching to the marketplace, and Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0S. Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0ST was created from Cisco IOS Release 12.0S to take advantage of the latest scalability functions built into the Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0S code base. |

Maintenance Releases |
Maintenance updates for an ED release usually deliver support for additional platforms or features, beyond what was available at the FCS release. While the addition of platforms and features at maintenance releases can have a destabilizing effect on the release, Early Deployment maintenance releases are subject to the same level of testing as the maintenance releases for Major Releases.
Important Note: This release follows the standard Cisco release process. |
||||||||||||||||
Interim Builds |
Interim builds are not recommended and are not fully tested. Customers will only be provided with interim builds when a critical defect renders the maintenance release unusable.
|

Recommended Customer Migration Path |
For more information, see the Cisco IOS 12.0 Software Upgrade Planner. The migration path is the logical superseding software. The uniqueness of each network requires that customers verify support for hardware, features, and protocols before a massive network upgrade. |
