Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0SC - No. 972

Introduction

This product bulletin describes the process used to deliver Cisco IOS Software for the Cisco ubr7200 Series Router. This bulletin should be used in conjunction with Product Bulletin #537 , Cisco IOS Software Release Process.

Summary

Cisco IOS software release 12.0SC is an Early Deployment (ED) release, which delivers support for the Cisco ubr7200 Series Router. 12.0SC is being offered to provide a stable release for cable headend customers. No unique functinality will be introduced into the 12.0SC train. Only a few select features that have been released from other release trains and have demonstrated good stability will be brought into the 12.0SC train. This policy will be enforced to ensure code stability.

The process to deliver 12.0SC is based on the Cisco IOS ED release process. Unique distinctions for 12.0SC are:

• 12.0SC is based on the 12.0 Major Release, and is directly parented from 12.0S.
  
  
• There is a one-to-one correspondence of maintenance releases 12.0S and 12.0SC.
  
  

Release Process

Release 12.0SC is based on the 12.0 Major Release, and is directly parented from 12.0S ED release. As maintenance is performed on release 12.0, it is synced to 12.0SC. For every maintenance release of 12.0, there is a maintenance release of 12.0SC, which contains all defect corrections on 12.0, in addition to maintenance or new functionality unique to 12.0SC.

Figure 2 shows the relationship between 12.0, 12.0S and 12.0SC. As described in Product Bulletin #537, the numbering scheme explicitly describes the level of maintenance on 12.0, 12.0S and 12.0SC. For example, 12.0(6)SC includes all maintenance that has been performed on 12.0(6), 12.0(6)S. It may also include additional maintenance or new functionality specific to 12.0SC.

Based on the unique needs of the different platforms on this release, there may be times when 12.0SC specific functionality or maintenance is required, but no additional maintenance is required from the 12.0 parent release. In these situations, a new maintenance release of 12.0SC will be created, but it will remain at the current maintenance level of 12.0. These maintenance releases are clearly numbered to identify:

• the maintenance level of 12.0 to which they are synced
  
  
• revision level of 12.0SC since that last sync to 12.0

Figure 3 shows an example in which the maintenance is required on 12.0(7)SC and is called 12.0(7)SC1. In this example, the number "1" is added to the release number to identify that this maintenance release is synced from 12.0(7)S, and that there are differences between this release and the previous maintenance release, 12.0(7)S. Readme files are created to clearly identify what was integrated into each maintenance release of 12.0(7)SC.

Life span

The 12.0SC train will reach the `End of Sales' milestone with the 12.0(15)SC release. This release will be the last release orderable. There will be one more maintenance release of 12.0SC, the 12.0(16)SC release. This release will not be orderable, but will be available for download from CCO. Future ubr7200 support can be found in the 12.1EC train.

Cisco IOS Software 12.0SC is supported by the Cisco Systems Product Support Policy. Release Notes will exist on CCO for every maintenance release.
