Major Release Summary

Description

Cisco IOS® Software Release 11.3 is based on Cisco IOS 11.2(7)F of the Next Generation Release Process (NGRP) model. Cisco IOS Software Release 11.3 first customer shipped (FCS) on December 22, 1997, as a short-term release (with one year of engineering support) to bridge the gap between Cisco IOS 11.2 and the next main release, Cisco IOS 12.0. It will not achieve general deployment (GD) status.

The Cisco IOS Software Release 11.3 label marks the end of the NGRP model and the beginning of a new Cisco IOS release model, unofficially called the Technology model. The main attribute of this model is characterized by two parallel release trains (as opposed to three in the NGRP):

The main major release train (Cisco IOS Software Release 11.3 or Cisco IOS 11.3M) is closed to any additions to the code once it is FCS.
The major technology release (or T train) adds new Cisco IOS Software features and new Cisco hardware support with each subsequent maintenance release until Cisco IOS Software Release 11.3(4)T, where all additions stop.

Maintenance Releases

Cisco IOS Software Release 11.3 is a time-based maintenance release.

Interim Builds

Interim builds are not recommended and are not fully tested. Customers will only be provided with interim builds when a critical defect renders the maintenance release unusable.

7-week maintenance cycle:	Cisco IOS Software Release 11.3 uses a 7-week release model. A maintenance release is delivered once every seven weeks. An interim build is executed once a week.
13-week maintenance cycle:	Not applicable

Maintenance Release Synchronization Points

Recommended Migration

If currently using Cisco IOS Software Release 11.3 or 11.3T, the recommended upgrade path is Cisco IOS 12.0 or 12.0T.

Year 2000 (Y2K) Compliant

Cisco IOS Software Release 11.3 is Y2K compliant.

General Deployment (GD) Plan

Cisco IOS Software Release 11.3 will not achieve GD status.

Life Cycle
