Description

Cisco IOS® Software Release 11.3 is based on Cisco IOS 11.2(7)F of the Next Generation Release Process (NGRP) model. Cisco IOS Software Release 11.3 first customer shipped (FCS) on December 22, 1997, as a short-term release (with one year of engineering support) to bridge the gap between Cisco IOS 11.2 and the next main release, Cisco IOS 12.0. It will not achieve general deployment (GD) status.

The Cisco IOS Software Release 11.3 label marks the end of the NGRP model and the beginning of a new Cisco IOS release model, unofficially called the Technology model. The main attribute of this model is characterized by two parallel release trains (as opposed to three in the NGRP):

  • The main major release train (Cisco IOS Software Release 11.3 or Cisco IOS 11.3M) is closed to any additions to the code once it is FCS.
  • The major technology release (or T train) adds new Cisco IOS Software features and new Cisco hardware support with each subsequent maintenance release until Cisco IOS Software Release 11.3(4)T, where all additions stop.
