Cisco IOS® Software Release 11.2GS is an early deployment (ED) release delivering support for Cisco 12000 Gigabit Switch Routers (GSRs). Cisco IOS Software Release 11.2GS has been customized to address the unique environment and requirements of Large Enterprise and Internet Service Provider (ISP) customers. Cisco IOS Software Release 11.2GS is based on the Cisco IOS 11.2 major release and is parented directly from the Cisco IOS Software Release 11.2P ED release.

Maintenance from Cisco IOS Software Release 11.2P is also synchronized to Cisco IOS 11.2GS; however, synchronizations are not done for every maintenance release of Cisco IOS 11.2P. Maintenance is synchronized to Cisco IOS Software Release 11.2GS from Cisco IOS 11.2P only when necessary to satisfy the unique requirements of the Cisco 12000 series routers. The maintenance performed on Cisco IOS Software Release 11.2 and Cisco IOS 11.2P is constantly evaluated to assess applicability to the Cisco 12000 series routers.

As with other ED releases, the maintenance releases are clearly identified by the level of maintenance that has been performed on the underlying release. For example, Cisco IOS Software Release 11.2(9)GS includes all maintenance that has been performed on Cisco IOS 11.2(9) and Cisco IOS 11.2(9)P. Recommended Migration

If currently an ISP, Large Enterprise, or Enterprise customer, the recommended upgrade path is Cisco IOS Software Release 12.0S.

The recommended migration path is not very straightforward. Look into the hardware, protocols, and features used along with software defects to verify the above recommendation will work for your unique network.

Cisco IOS Software Release 11.2GS is Y2K compliant.

General Deployment (GD) Plan

Cisco IOS Software Release 11.2GS is not targeted for GD.
