Early Deployment (ED) Release Summary

Description

Cisco IOS® Software Release 11.1IA was released to deliver functionality for DistributedDirector. DistributedDirector provides dynamic, transparent, and scalable Internet traffic load distribution between multiple topologically-dispersed servers. DistributedDirector is the only global Internet service scaling solution that uses Cisco IOS software and leverages routing table information in the network infrastructure to make "network intelligent" load distribution decisions.

Cisco IOS Software Release 11.1IA is not a router image. It does not provide routing functionality. This release train serves only to introduce DistributedDirector functionality. Do not attempt to run this software release train on any existing router platforms.

Cisco IOS Software Release 11.1IA is not available as a stand-alone software product. Because DistributedDirector is a dedicated platform, Cisco IOS 11.1IA is only available bundled with DistributedDirector hardware. For more information, see the following pages:

7-week maintenance cycle:	Cisco IOS Software Release 11.1IA has reached mature maintenance.
13-week maintenance cycle:	Cisco IOS Software Release 11.1IA is now on a 13-week maintenance release model.

Recommended Migration

Cisco IOS Software Release 11.1(9)IA was the first IA release.

Cisco IOS Software Release 11.1IA will merge with the Cisco IOS 12.0T release train in late 1998.

If currently using Cisco IOS Software Release 11.1IA, the recommended upgrade path is Cisco IOS 12.0T.

Year 2000 (Y2K) Compliant

Cisco IOS Software Release 11.1IA is Y2K compliant.

General Deployment (GD) Plan

Cisco IOS Software Release 11.1IA is not targeted for GD.

Life Cycle

Cisco IOS Software Release 11.1IA will fully merge with the Cisco IOS 12.0T release train and is expected to reach end of engineering (EOE) in June 1999 (subject to change).
