Introduction

In Cisco E-Mail Manager, you can attach a rule that you used previously as a subroutine to a rule tree. This document describes the steps to attach these rules.

Prerequisites

Requirements

Readers of this document should have knowledge of these topics:

  • E-Mail Manager administration

  • Basic knowledge of how to edit a text file in Microsoft Windows

Components Used

The information in this document is based on E-Mail Manager versions 4.05i and 4.0.6.

The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, make sure that you understand the potential impact of any command.

Procedure

If you use a rule as a subroutine in E-Mail Manager, you cannot link the rule in a rule tree. If you decide that a subroutine is more effective as a rule, you can make a manual change to the rules.cfg file.

Complete these steps:

  1. Verify that the subroutine is not called by any rules or other subroutines.

Manually look in each rule and subroutine for a reference.

  2. If the subroutine is not called by another file, back up the subroutine.

  3. Open the rules.cfg file from this path:

    \Program Files\cisco\eMail Manager\Instances\instance_name\engine\rules.cfg
  4. Search the rules.cfg file for the subroutine name and locate the line that begins with:

    Name: "subroutine_name"
  5. Remove the line that appears under the Name: line and begins with Subroutine:.

  6. Save the file.

  7. Restart the E-Mail Manager instance.

You now can link the rule. In this example from the rules.cfg file, you change Test Rule from a subroutine to a rule:

Name: "Test Rule"

Id: 183

Admin: "admin"

Type: 0

Subroutine:

Time: Mon, 24 Apr 2000 23:26:36 GMT

Success: 0

Fail: 0

Delete the line that begins with Subroutine:

Name: "Test Rule"

Id: 183

Admin: "admin"

Type: 0

Time: Mon, 24 Apr 2000 23:26:36 GMT

Success: 0

Fail: 0
