Introduction
When you start Cisco E-Mail Manager, the system creates multiple Microsoft DOS windows that allow the program to interact with Microsoft Windows. The messages that E-Mail Manager generates in these windows represent the current status of the program. This document describes how to prevent these additional windows from opening.

Q. How do you prevent E-Mail Manager from opening DOS windows when E-Mail Manager starts?
A. When you start the E-Mail Manager core server process, one DOS window opens. Figure 1 shows the title bar of this window.

E-Mail Manager opens five DOS windows. Four of them have the title bar that Figure 1 shows, and one has the title bar that Figure 2 shows.

Windows 2000
A. Complete these steps in order to stop E-Mail Manager from opening DOS windows in a Windows 2000 environment:
- Choose Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Services.
- Right-click the appropriate service.
- Choose Properties.

- Uncheck Allow service to interact with desktop.
Windows NT
A. Complete these steps in order to stop E-Mail Manager from opening DOS windows in a Windows NT environment:
- Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel > Services and double-click the appropriate service. The window in Figure 4 displays. Figure 4: Service

- Uncheck Allow Service to Interact with Desktop.
A. Apply this procedure to all E-Mail Manager processes. When you inhibit these DOS windows, you do affect normal operations.
